Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent from an approved school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  • Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited program leading to eligibility for board certification. Residency programs include those approved by ACGME, AOA, or other recognized programs deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.
  • Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible to be appointed as 'Physician Resident Providers' (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Board certification in the specialty/subspecialty listed in the announcement.
  • Physical requirements as per VA Directive and Handbook 5019.

Duties

  • Provide expert interpretation of advanced body MRI exams, including prostate, liver, rectal, and female pelvic MRI.
  • Interpret low-dose CTs for Lung Cancer Screening and general chest, abdomen, and pelvis CTs.
  • Perform general ultrasound and plain film interpretation.
  • Support patient care with communication of exam results.
  • Consult on exam selection and appropriateness criteria.
  • Prescribe and modify exam protocols as needed.
  • Oversee technical image quality and provide feedback to technologists.
  • Troubleshoot and customize advanced body MRI protocols.
  • Educate and supervise radiology residents and medical staff through conferences, tumor boards, and lectures.
  • Participate in staff meetings, peer review, and mandatory training.
  • Maintain BLS certification.
