Summary

This is an open continuous announcement. Applications will be qualified based on the submitted resume, and qualified candidates will be referred to the hiring manager every 2 weeks until the announcement is closed, canceled, or filled. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable, in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent from an approved school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S. or its territories.
  • Residency training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Residents enrolled in accredited residency programs are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Duties

  • Consultation and treatment of patients in inpatient and outpatient settings, including disorders like GERD, dyspepsia, dysphagia, non-cardiac chest pain, IBS, pancreatitis, liver disease, diarrhea, constipation, and IBD.
  • Performing endoscopies and procedures such as colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, and EGD. ERCP is desirable but not required.
  • Responding to patient calls, informing test results, renewing prescriptions, providing advice to other providers, and administrative duties.
  • Entering accurate and timely progress notes in the EMR system.
  • Maintaining equipment and adhering to safety, health, and infection control standards.
  • Participating in orientation, patient and family education, and performance improvement activities.
  • Practicing according to VA guidelines, policies, bylaws, and standards.
  • Considering patient age and development in care, and communicating appropriately.
  • Reporting to the Chief of General Surgery, Surgical Care ICC.
