Summary

Tampa VA Healthcare System's Urology Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Physician (Urology). Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. You must be an excellent communicator and team player who is adaptable to the needs of a growing medical center.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable, in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree: Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved medical school.
  • Licensure: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
  • Residency: Completion of an approved residency in a core specialty leading to board eligibility, approved by the VA.
  • Residency candidates enrolled in ACGME/AOA-accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), but must be fully licensed and work under supervision.
  • English Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Preferred: Board certification or eligibility in Urology.
  • Physical Requirements: Must pass a VA pre-employment physical exam, capable of moderate lifting, standing, bending, and hearing whisper.

Duties

  • Participate in the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), with application submitted within four months of appointment. Program details and eligibility are specified by VHA policy.
  • Provide comprehensive urology care, including outpatient and inpatient services, surgeries, and consultations.
  • Teach and mentor residents and students, participate in clinical rounds, and ensure compliance with care standards.
  • Perform administrative duties such as documentation, patient management, and team collaboration.
  • Work schedule typically Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, with possible shift variations based on facility needs.
