Responsibilities

The Market/Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center Chief Medical Officer (MCMO) for the Houston market is a senior leadership role with key responsibilities aligned with regional and national priorities. The MCMO reports directly to the Market President, with matrix reporting to the Region Chief Medical Officer (RCMO), and shares accountability with the Market Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and other leaders to oversee clinical care delivery across the market.

The Houston market includes eight hospitals, a large academic medical center, 3,200 medical staff, and 800 advanced practice providers, as part of the CommonSpirit South region with 33 facilities across six states. The MCMO develops and implements market strategies, builds leadership teams, and promotes clinical excellence, quality, safety, and efficiency. Responsibilities also include physician engagement, recruitment, and medical staff affairs, ensuring alignment with regional and national priorities.

At the hospital level, the Baylor St. Lukes Medical Center CMO partners with hospital leadership to develop operational plans, oversee physician performance, and enhance care quality, safety, and patient experience. The role involves leading clinical integration, monitoring performance, and fostering collaboration among clinical departments and staff. The CMO also guides clinical programs, participates in care coordination, and advises hospital and system leadership on physician practice issues.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of medical practice experience
  • At least 5 years in a senior leadership role such as HCMO
  • Preferred: Advanced degree in healthcare management or related field
  • Active medical license in the state
  • Board certification in a relevant specialty
  • Strong communication, change management, and influence skills
