About the Role
As an Assistant Designer, you will design and develop products consistent with seasonal trends and concepts, and customer/business needs. Under the leadership of senior team members, you will support the development process for each product from sketch to approval.
Responsibilities
Translate trends and concepts into designs that respond to business needs for the Kids decorative accessories category
Develop designs from initial concept through approval
Pull tears and assemble concepts
Create presentation decks and visual line lists
Develop designs through sketching and 3D modeling
Prepare product renderings
Complete product specifications and CADs
Support the development process through daily communication with the sourcing department, vendors and agents
Comment on product samples
Issue product approvals
Coordinate sample presentations and organize samples
Consistently research kids industry trends to feed design inspiration and new collection development
Work proactively according to development calendar to stay ahead of timelines
Criteria MUST provide Portfolio link (including password) on resume - or link to PDF work samples with application
Degree in Design or related experience
Minimum 1-2 years of design work in furniture or equivalent experience
Must be expert level in Adobe Creative Suite
Ability for strategic thinking and understanding of white space in kids marketplace
Ability to work independently as well as with a team in a fast-paced environment
Ability to prioritize, multi-task and adapt to change
Extremely organized, efficient and detail-oriented - excellent calendar adherence and ownership
Excellent time management and communication skills
Excellent cross functional skills and partnership with merchandisers and product development team Understanding and enthusiasm for the West Elm Kids brand
This role requires being onsite in the Dumbo Brooklyn office
