Minimum Starting Salary:

$16.80 per hour/7.5 hour work day

Summary: Employee performs assignments of work under direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation, cleaning, sanitizing, disinfecting, and upkeep of all designated interior and exterior building or spaces according to set standards and procedures. Will work with various types of equipment, moving of furniture, room setup/teardown, as well as waste removal and surplus equipment tasks.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Clean, buff, wax, renovate, and renew floor surfaces of dirt, debris, and old surface finishes with appropriate techniques, tools, and equipment. Operate a variety of maintenance and cleaning equipment which may include: rotators, extractors, automatic scrubbers, power sweepers, vacuum cleaners, buffers for vinyl and other hard floor surfaces, carpet cleaning machines which vacuum, shampoo, extract soil and water from carpets and furniture. Collect and place debris and recyclable material removed from buildings in containers for removal; empty authorized waste containers and check and/or replace liners. Empty trash cans and remove recycling from collection areas to proper bins for removal. Moves furniture, supplies, and miscellaneous equipment, and sets up meeting space as directed; sweeps or shovels snow from steps and walks at building entrances and connecting walks; spreads ice melts as needed. Clean, disinfect, sanitize, and service restroom facilities and fixtures, including but not limited to wipe down and clean partitions and replenish all supplies throughout the day, as need be. Clean windows, walls, partitions, and door glass; wash interior glass, including on partitions, framed pictures, signage, and doors. Clean and dust furniture, tables, exhibit cases, fixtures, windows, doors, trim, and related furnishings; clean, disinfect, and wax furniture as necessary. High and low dusting of various surfaces. Keeps floors free of dirt and debris by regularly scheduled mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, and scrubbing of floors and other surfaces. Report to supervisor observed needs for repair within buildings, for repair or replacement of equipment, and diminishing supplies. Performing all other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications: Required to wear steel toe safety shoes and other assigned items needed for assigned duties and safety.

Valid Illinois Driver's License.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Must have an accessible telephone number. Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of cleaning solutions Knowledge of custodial methods Ability to comprehend and follow written instructions, directions, labeling and measurements. Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner. Knowledge of and prior use of service equipment such as auto-scrubbers, carpet cleaning equipment, power sweepers, scrubbing machines & floor buffers.
