The mission of the Louisiana Veterans Home is to primarily serve the Veterans' population of Louisiana through the provision of medical, restorative, and rehabilitative services in an atmosphere of respect and compassion. The primary objective of the home is to provide quality nursing care to eligible veterans, with the ultimate goal of returning them to the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity.

The Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home is seeking a compassionate Therapeutic Recreation Specialist 3-A to aid recreation staff in providing high-quality care to our honored veterans. Minimum Qualifications

Four years of experience as a teacher, instructor, or counselor in a recreational program plus two years of experience in recreation therapy; OR

A bachelor's degree in a rehabilitation, recreation, or therapy field, a physical education field, or psychology plus two years of experience in recreation therapy; OR

Possession of certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist in accordance with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification plus two years of experience in recreation therapy; OR

An advanced degree in a rehabilitation, recreation, or therapy field, a physical education field, or psychology plus one year of experience in recreation therapy.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

Direct Activities through therapeutic recreational services

Uses on-site resources to foster a sense of well-being for veterans residing at the home

Manages a team of activity personnel

Develops Activity care plans in relation to MDS assessments

Follow the procurement procedure for state purchasing

Functions as the department head and team lead for the activity department
