SOUTHERN GROWERS HISTORY:
Southern Growers Wholesale Nursery & Greenhouses are divisions of a large, diversified company called CCC Associates Company Incorporated, headquartered in Montgomery, Alabama. CCC Associates began as a simple retail florist in 1950 by James L. Thompson, Sr. The company built its first greenhouse in 1958 and then expanded to a wholesale container nursery in 1979. Currently, we have grown to approximately 10 acres of greenhouses and 90 acres of nursery growing fields.
Currently, Southern Growers produces a full line of bedding plants, seasonal color, specialty containers, hanging baskets, and holiday crops such as Poinsettias and Hydrangeas in our greenhouses. The nursery grows container shrubs, groundcovers, perennials, grasses, and trees ranging from 4" up to 45 gallons.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The General Manager (GM) will be responsible for communications, customer relations, operations, production, human resources, finances, and planning at our nursery. The GM will act as a leader to the entire organization, reporting directly to ownership and taking responsibility for the organization's performance.
Location: Montgomery, Alabama
Reports To: Ownership
Supervise Others: Yes, all members of staff, including direct reports from department heads.
Travel: 10%, Trade show events every two years.
Compensation: $130K - $150K (dependent on experience) plus incentives & health/retirement benefits
RESPONSIBILITIES:
People Management • Assume full responsibility to lead the team within 60 days of start date • Use LEAN principles to manage all day-to-day activities of an experienced team of department heads • The GM will be responsible for achieving annual sales and profit goals as well as the management and motivation of the teams • Run bi-weekly EC meeting • Help departments communicate and solve differences • Assist in proper distribution of labor • Hire department managers, if needed • Supervise all operations involved with producing the crop on time and to the agreed upon standards • Maintain required records and see that worker protection standards are followed. • Understand the potential safety hazards in work areas, and act to make employees jobs' safe • Communicate safety concerns promptly to maintenance if you can't fix the problems yourself • Maintain a zero-tolerance attitude for unsafe work conditions and practices • You are expected to lead by example and equip people to be successful in their jobs
Financial Management • Create and adhere to budgets for all areas of business • Weekly analysis of budget adherence • Oversight of P&L statement
Production Management • Oversee grow recipes, ensuring that they are completed in a timely and accurate manner and that they are updated quickly when the situation dictates • Oversee the management of irrigation, nutrient levels, and environmental control systems • Oversee the development & successful execution of production goals for ALL departments • Oversee the timely completion of production forecasting & sales forecasting and ensure that they account for each other and that those forecasts are clearly executed in daily practices • Oversee & manage productivity and process efficiency in ALL departments by strategically advising when necessary • Initiate and manage capital projects as needed i.e. expansion, greenhouse building, acquisition of new technology etc.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: • A minimum of 7 year's leadership and grower operations experience.
REQUIRED • Industry knowledge of specific characteristics and culture within the horticulture, greenhouse, landscaping and or nursery sector.
REQUIRED • Exceptional organization, time-management, customer follow-up up and administrative skills • Intermediate to advanced computer skills with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) • Combination of knowledge and experience showing prior expertise in management, supply chain and logistics, agriculture, marketing, sales, and finance. • Excellent leadership skills, ability to collaborate with multiple teams and on numerous projects, and the ability to influence both small (3-7 leaders) and large (entire company) groups for best results. • Previous Nursery and/or greenhouse GM experience.
