Reporting to the Art Director, the Graphic Designer will represent and support the development of the PHS brand by skillfully creating campaign graphics, print collateral, and digital media. The ideal candidate will have a strong, varied background in graphic design and/or advertising, with excellent communication, multi-tasking, and creative ideation skills. They should be adept at working in a quick-paced, deadline-oriented environment.

Primary Responsibilities:
Design Ability to translate concepts and stories into impactful visuals Ensure a high standard of quality and solid execution of fundamental design principles
Deliverables may include, but are not limited to digital and OOH campaigns, social content, brand collateral, signage, infographics, logos, website assets, photo selection, motion/animated graphics, etc.
Maintain the integrity of the PHS identity and style, while bringing a sense of exploration, strong creative problem-solving skills, and a keen eye for culturally relevant visuals Assist with on-site creative support during Flower Show, including troubleshooting signage, layout adjustments, or last-minute design needs Provide excellent internal client service, translating stakeholder requests into clear creative solutions and proactively offering guidance or alternatives where needed. Team Participation
Work collaboratively with other Marketing team members and cross-departmentally Execute work primarily through the Marketing pipeline (paid campaigns, digital content), while supporting the internal creative request pipeline, as needed Work closely with internal and external partners to ensure creative alignment Present work confidently, articulating the rationale behind visual and conceptual decisions Manage multiple projects at once from concept to production, while adhering to deadlines and budget parameters Maintain best practices for efficient workflow and proper file organization Maintain good relationships with vendors from cost negotiation to production Process invoices and engage in financially efficient methods for printing, supplies and services Qualifications + Specifications:
Minimum degree required: Bachelor's degree in graphic design, Multimedia, or similar Years of experience: Minimum 3 years of design experience in advertising, branding, or similar Licenses/Certifications: Graphic Design, Multimedia, or similar Driver's License: N/A
Knowledges, Skills, Abilities Required for Success:
Thorough concepting and design iteration skills Proficient in industry-standard creative software, such as Adobe CC (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), Figma, Canva Experience designing and building presentations and templates in PowerPoint and Microsoft Word Tapped into current design trends and popular visual aesthetics, with the ability to discern what works best for PHS content Experience working on print projects and preparing clean, production-ready print files, with proficiency and a solid understanding of pre-press best practices Experience working on digital projects, this may include websites, apps, etc. Strong sense of typography and design Ability to follow artistic direction Ability to effectively communicate design concepts with co-workers who may not have design knowledge Excellent attention to detail and accuracy Excellent written and verbal communication skills Organized, deadline-oriented, and able to manage budgets Ability to reach creative solutions independently Commitment to the mission of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and PHS Values Additional skills considered a plus:
Custom illustration Video, photography, or motion graphics experience Experience creating large-format signage and wayfinding Working knowledge of Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro Experience with Content Management Systems and familiarity with HTML and CSS
Physical Demands: This is largely a sedentary role that requires looking at a computer screen for extended periods of time; however, some physical demands are required.
Standard Hours
(including travel, evening, and weekend hours): PHS's standard office hours are 9 AM to 5 PM at team member's designated workspace. Some teams and positions work alternate hours because of the nature of their role at PHS. Your Business Unit's Working Norms document will identify alternative hours, if applicable.
Flower Show Requirements: Hours preparing for the show and the duration of the show may not follow your regular work schedule. Your Flower Show schedule will depend upon your regular position or your temporary position supporting the Flower Show. You may be required to stand for long periods of time, do extensive walking, and lift up to 25 pounds.
