The
Customer Service Assistant
in the Central Library Adult Services Department is dedicated to ensuring a positive customer experience. This role assists customers with library services and circulation policies; checks in, checks out, and renews materials; sorts and routes returned items; processes daily operations reports; inspects materials for wear or damage; and performs other duties as assigned. The ideal candidate is flexible and adaptable, able to shift tasks and locations as needed throughout the day to support excellent customer service.

Schedule:
Monday: 12 pm - 9 pm
Tuesday: 12 pm - 9 pm
Wednesday: 9 am - 1 pm
Thursday: 11:30 am - 5 pm
Sunday 12:30 pm - 5 pm
Some additional qualifications and essential functions include:
Provides general information in person and by phone assisting customers in locating and discovering materials, connecting with available library services, or providing information about the library, referring questions to the appropriate resource; Performs shelf-reading, sorts and organizes library materials; May help customers with basic technology and Internet problems; Performs other duties as assigned. Ability to learn and demonstrate library's automated systems and self-service tools; Ability to operate audio-visual equipment, smart phones, mobile devices, computer hardware and software, and quickly learn new databases and consumer devices including (and not limited to) e-readers, tablets and personal computers. High school diploma or G.E.D. required; Bilingual English - Spanish preferred ; No previous experience required;
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Physical Activity: For most positions work regularly requires stooping, bending and light lifting such as three or four reams of paper, four or five books, or other materials (up to 20 pounds).
Work Environment: Work environment involves everyday risk or discomforts which require normal safety precautions, e.g. use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and or avoidance of trips and falls. For some positions there are usually no major sources of discomfort; work is essentially conducted in a normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature, and air conditions.
