Organization's Summary Statement: The Payroll Coordinator is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of biweekly payroll for all employees, including full-time staff/faculty, student workers, and contracted (C1) employees within Maryland Athletics. This role manages complex payroll transactions such as salary increases, bonuses, and overload payments, while ensuring compliance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements. The Payroll Coordinator also leads new hire payroll orientation for students and C1 employees and oversees the integrity of payroll data. Serving as a frontline employee resource, this position provides direct support and guidance on payroll-related matters, ensuring a responsive and efficient employee experience. Physical Demands: Position requires prolonged periods of sitting and computer use, along with manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment. The role involves occasional standing or walking to attend meetings or conduct orientations, and may require lifting light office materials (up to 20 pounds). Visual acuity and effective verbal and auditory communication are essential for reviewing payroll data and interacting with employees in person, by phone, or virtually. Preferences: Experience with onboarding processes and I-9 compliance. Licenses/Certifications: N/A Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: One (1) year of professional payroll experience. Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge of payroll policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable payroll related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances. Knowledge of payroll functions. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products. Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments. Ability to analyze situations and determine the best recourse for response. Additional Job Details
