Description Summary Under the general direction and supervision of the Director of Physical Facilities, the Maintenance Specialist is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of all electrical motors, machines, fixtures, and wiring or any electrical extensions as required by the college. Responsible for scheduling, coordinating, electrical locating, and assisting in the maintenance and repair of the physical plant equipment at all College centers and locations. The Maintenance specialist assists in HVAC maintenance, plumbing, and general maintenance throughout the college as required. This position, under limited supervision, will apply knowledge and skills of a journey person in the installation, service, and repair of a variety of electrical equipment. Will assist in the planning and implementation of the College's maintenance and remodeling projects. Will perform related work as required.
Pay will be determined based on experience. Examples of Duties
Constant (67-100%)
Coordinate and assist in the maintenance and preventive maintenance on physical plant equipment. Install, maintain, and repair electrical control, wiring, and lighting systems. Coordinate maintenance schedules. Assist in the repair of mechanical equipment, plumbing, electrical locks, electrical locates, and security systems. Frequent (34-66%)
Assist in programming and maintaining Climate Control System/HVAC systems, perform complete maintenance and repair including changing motors, belts and filters, greasing motors and pulleys, ensure proper installation and performance of electrical, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning systems. Read, review, understand, interpret, and utilize blueprints and other schematic diagrams. Must be able to construct or remodel according to prepared plans. Coordinate electrical installations on remodeling projects: Meet with the department head to review plans. Make up estimates on materials and cost for projects. Order materials for projects. Seek information on developing trends and troubleshooting of maintenance systems. Occasionally (10-33%)
May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required. Supervise vendors and employees in mechanical maintenance. Assist in snow removal from parking lots and sidewalks, providing a safe and clean environment for the public. Ensure proper storage of seasonal and/or obsolete equipment. Weekend and Holiday responsibilities. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
1. Be able and willing to represent Iowa Central Community College in a positive manner with prospective, former, and current students, clients, suppliers, and the community we serve.
2. Be able to assume responsibility, deal effectively with problems, and exercise good judgment when making a decision.
3. Be able to work and communicate with staff, clients, and general public.
4. Be able to install and maintain mechanical equipment.
5. Have knowledge of mechanical equipment.
6. Coordinate schedules for mechanical maintenance.
7. Be able to work around frequent interruptions and organize accordingly.
8. Be positive in attitude and actions.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalency. Must have Journeyman Class B Electrical license. (Master's License preferred) Experience or education in commercial and residential electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. Computer skills
