Qualifications must include experience and skills in: heating, cooling, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and general grounds keeping. Must be a high school graduate. Position Purpose Under the direct supervision of the Director of Maintenance, to maintain school buildings and building and grounds in orderly, neat, safe and operable condition.
Essential Job Functions
Performs tasks to keep school buildings and building and grounds in orderly, neat, and clean condition such as clearing disposing of trash, cleaning bathrooms and floors, washing windows, dusting furniture and fixtures, mowing grass, and related tasks. Performs tasks to maintain buildings and grounds in safe and operable condition, such as making minor repairs to property as requested, clearing snow and ice, and related tasks. Inspects equipment and facilities, and recommends repair or replacement action to supervisor. Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical use of fuel, water, and electricity. Maintains motors and other mechanical equipment and ensures that such equipment receives scheduled servicing. Obtains equipment, tools and materials required for completion of assigned work. Maintains inventory of supplies, materials, equipment, and fuel, and places orders as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operations of maintenance tasks. Inspects equipment and facilities, and recommends repair or replacement action to supervisor. Prepares and maintains records to document work and repairs as requested. Performs duties required for Maintenance Mechanics. Documents pertinent information for routine and preventative maintenance. Assists with ordering supplies, seeking pricing, general inventory, & ordering. Provides assistance to other support departments as necessary. (food, transportation, custodian) Note:

Equipment All types of mechanical and electrical hand and power tools including but not limited to: gas and diesel mowers, tractors, weed eaters and transportation vehicles etc. Also includes welders and torches. Some use of office equipment such as computers, facsimile, telephone, printers & copiers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of fundamental tools, materials, practices, maintenance, methods and procedures in the carpentry, plumbing, and electrical trades. Knowledge of building code conformance standards for carpentry, plumbing, electricity, electrical installation, and repair. Knowledge of occupational safety and health laws and regulations. Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with others. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure. Ability to describe orally or in writing maintenance or repair problems as needed. Ability to troubleshoot, problem solve and resolve electrical or electricity issues. Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work. Skills required include: ability to lay out work; gathering tools and equipment/supplies, reading all types of meters, gauges, and measuring equipment for the purpose of completing work in the various trades. Possess the ability to work independently, ability to prioritize work based on the availability of staff and the urgency of the need. Ability to manage time to maximize department productivity. Must demonstrate flexibility and the ability to work in a multi-faceted environment with multiple projects and constant interruptions. Mental Demand Position requires reading, detailed work, confidentiality, problem solving, language, math, written and verbal communication, multiple concurrent tasks, constant interruptions, and stressful situation on occasions.
Physical Effort Bending at waist, kneeling, balancing, lifting, reaching, writing, sitting, talking, hearing, handling (holding, grasping, turning or otherwise working with hands), and fingering, walking, and seeing. A typical work day consists of exerting up to 50 lbs of force occasionally and lifting heavy objects in excess of 50 lbs. Climbing ladders to access work areas including roofs.
Safety Requirements
Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used. Wears appropriate safety gear. Travel Requirements Frequent travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Ability to withstand heights and work in crawl spaces. Typical risks associated with using tools of the trade. Occasional strenuous physical work. Occasional work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow. Note:

Education, experience, and Training:
High schools graduate or equivalent with experience in these trades; mechanical, electrical, carpentry, painting, landscaping, and HVAC. .
Qualifications Profile Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
High School Diploma. Successful experience in building and grounds maintenance, and repair. Motor Vehicle Operator's license or ability to provide own transportation.
