This is advanced administrative, technical, and supervisory work supporting meter installation and repair, the annual testing and repair of backflow assemblies and devices. Employee in this class plan, supervisor, and provide technical assistance to operations and maintenance field personnel. Direction is given to subordinates diagnosing and planning testing and repair work. Employees participate in reviews of new or modified operations and exercise independent judgment with established technical stands. The position reports to a division supervisor, unit supervisor or designee. Duties are highly independent and requires a large amount of public contact, planning and coordination with other agencies.

This position Utilities Maintenance Specialist 4 position is located at:

Utilities Maintenance South, 6730 142nd Avenue, Largo, FL 33771. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.; occasional evening hours

What Will You Do? Develop and monitor a meter inspection/exam program for all potable and reclaimed meters from 3/4 to 2 in. Proficiency in City Works to accurately track and account for work performed on meter assets. Proficiency in GIS mapping to responded to emergencies and maintain our distribution system safety. QA/QC workorders and assets installed through annual contractors and furnished work orders. QA/QC direct reports work to close open workorders. Monitor/troubleshoot meet issues using Beacon. Order and maintain stock of parts, tools, and gaskets as well as handle warranty issues/concerns. This is a Field Supervisor position; 85% Field, 15% Office. Selects and trains new personnel, prepares work schedules, conducts performance evaluations. Coordinates overtime and maintains employee time records. Complete work related reports and/or maintains operation and maintenance logs. Routes daily work to provide efficient use of time and labor for daily work and small projects. Assigns and directs work on installs. Responsible for inventory of assets equipment, employee time records, scheduling of work. Prepare, write and conducts performance reviews. Make inspections of work site in advance of work performed. Make personal contact with public and private citizens to resolve complaints and to provide information. Respond to emergency calls as need or as directed. Ensure that adequate types and amounts of equipment and materials are available for project completion and consistently monitors and checks safety practices and procedures. Collaborate with other team members on variety of tasks and lead teams. Schedule work with customers for meter and backflow installations. Perform warranty function for group. Perform related work as assigned or required. •

What Do You Need?

4 years of skilled utilities field work experience (water, sewer, or reclaimed water) that includes 2 years of supervisor experience or crew leadership; or Completion of a 1-year skilled trades vocational or technical school program with a diploma or certification and 3 years of skilled utilities field work experience (Water, sewer, or reclaimed water) that includes 2 years of supervisory experience of crew leadership; or Completion of a 2-year skilled trades vocational or technical school program with a diploma or certification and 2 years of skilled utilities field work experience (Water, sewer, or reclaimed water) that includes 2 years of supervisory experience of crew leadership; or An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. Additional Requirements

2 years of supervisory experience or crew leadership in a skilled utilities discipline. Must acquire and maintain a Backflow Tester License throughout employment. Must acquire and maintain a Backflow repair certification throughout employment Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License. Must be available to respond to emergency calls, and/or complete work for deadlines, including hours beyond the scheduled the work times. Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations. Understand all parts and changeout process of meters 1 1/2 inch and larger. Basic knowledge of running small to medium construction equipment. •

Highly Desirable

Experience with underground utilities water or sewer; water meter management: plumbing and/or backflow prevention. Experience working with a variety of meters and backflow assemblies and devices. Experience operating a computerized maintenance management system to create work orders and service request, track business and create schedules. Proven leadership skills including leading a variety of teams. Good writing skills to provide multiple reports, emails, memos and research documents. Experience with Excel. DEP Level 3 License.
