The Preventative Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the optimal functioning of machinery, equipment, and facilities by conducting preventive maintenance tasks. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and proactive problem-solving abilities to identify and address potential issues before they escalate. The technician collaborates closely with the maintenance team to uphold operational efficiency and minimize downtime.
Duties + Responsibilities
Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks on machinery, equipment, and facilities according to established schedules and procedures. Inspect and lubricate machinery components to ensure smooth operation and prevent premature wear and tear. Clean and calibrate equipment to maintain optimal performance and accuracy. Identify and replace worn or damaged parts before they cause operational disruptions. Conduct diagnostic tests to detect potential issues and address them promptly. Document maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs, and parts replacement, in maintenance logs and databases. Collaborate with maintenance team members to prioritize preventive maintenance tasks and optimize workflow. Provide input on equipment maintenance schedules and recommend improvements to enhance reliability and efficiency. Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment for oneself and others. Description : This entry-level role involves assisting with routine preventive maintenance tasks under close supervision. The Preventative Maintenance Technician I gains foundational knowledge and skills in equipment maintenance and troubleshooting. Level : Entry (I) Years of Experience : 0 - 1 years Education : High school diploma or its equivalent is required. Certifications + Licenses : None required, but completion of basic safety training courses is beneficial, including OSHA Forklift Operator Certification. Preventative Maintenance Technician II
Description : The Preventative Maintenance Technician II performs preventive maintenance tasks independently and assists with more complex maintenance activities. This intermediate-level role requires further development of technical skills and problem-solving abilities. Level : Intermediate (II) Years of Experience : 1 - 3 years Education : High school diploma or its equivalent is required, along with either an Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance or completion of a certificate program preferred. Certifications + Licenses : Certification as an OSHA Forklift Operator; successful completion of a recognized industrial maintenance program or equivalent apprenticeship. Requirements
Experience + Skills
Minimum of (2) years' experience in preventive maintenance or a related field, preferably in a manufacturing environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical manuals and schematics. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team. Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to equipment maintenance. Ability to logically solve technical problems with minimal supervision. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Proficient in shop math with the ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals and use a calculator. Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is a plus. Certification or training in areas such as electrical and mechanical systems, or welding is desirable. Education
High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or certification in industrial maintenance preferred. Completion of a program at a Junior Vocational School or maintenance apprenticeship program is beneficial. Physical Demands + Work Environment
The employee must be able to lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to forty (40) pounds and work comfortably in a noisy and potentially hazardous industrial environment. Additionally, they should be capable of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching for extended periods. During job duties, the employee may also need to sit, stoop, kneel, climb, or balance occasionally. They must frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to forty (40) pounds and may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and a risk of electrical shock. There is occasional exposure to high, precarious places, and specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
