Job Description: Surgical Technician (Cardiothoracic) at UC San Diego Health

This position offers the benefit of working at San Diego's only academic medical center, with comprehensive benefits starting on day one. The roles are for 12-hour evening shifts (0830-2100). Jacobs Medical Center, part of UC San Diego Health, features 24 operating rooms, including advanced imaging suites supporting complex brain and spine surgeries. Our services include advanced surgery, cancer care, cardiac rehabilitation, clinical trials, and more. Position Overview
Under the general direction of a surgical nurse, the surgical technician performs complex duties using specialized knowledge from formal training. Responsibilities include supporting various specialty surgical areas, verifying equipment and inventory, liaising with surgeons and supply vendors regarding equipment issues, and providing ongoing education and training to staff. Depending on experience, the candidate will be hired at the Sr. Surgical Tech (level 2) or Principal Surgical Tech (level 3) level. Minimum Qualifications
Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program. BART or BLS certification at hire, with a commitment to obtain BART within six months. At least one year of Cardiothoracic Surgical Technician experience (for level 2). Knowledge of maintaining a therapeutic environment for cardiothoracic surgical procedures, with competence in at least three of the following: heart transplants, lung transplants, ventricular assist devices, aortic aneurysms, PTE, TAVR, cardiac robotic procedures, or other complex cardiac surgeries (for level 3). Knowledge of maintaining a therapeutic environment for surgical patients. Familiarity with surgical instrumentation across various procedures. Essential skills and knowledge for successful performance in this role. Preferred Qualifications
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST). Two years of Cardiac Surgical Technician experience in an operating room handling complex cases. Special Conditions
Availability to work various hours and locations as needed. Employment subject to background check and pre-employment physical. Compensation
Annual full pay range: $76,191 - $94,712, prorated if less than full-time. Hourly range: $36.49 - $45.36. Salary factors include experience, skills, education, certifications, and organizational needs.
