Position Summary:
The Global Logistics Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, and management of the company's global logistics and distribution network related to the production of biopharmaceutical Systems, Vessels, and other related equipment. This role ensures the efficient flow of materials and products from suppliers to customers, optimizing transportation, warehousing, and inventory management processes. The Global Logistics Manager will play a key role in developing and implementing logistics strategies that support business growth and profitability, while ensuring compliance with international trade regulations.
This is a hands-on position that manages the functional activities of global teams processing incoming materials and related QC documentation. This position ensures global compliance of all SOP's across all ABEC manufacturing facilities. Global standardization shipping & receiving procedures along with metrics, ensuring all Safety and Quality requirements are adhered too, and overall 5S of areas of responsibility is essential.
This position directly supervises department employees in four locations: Springfield, MO; Bethlehem, PA; Fermoy, Ireland; Kells, Ireland. This position plans and assigns work, implements policies and procedures, recommends, and implements process improvements, and ensures safe working conditions.
Responsibilities: Develop and implement global logistics strategies to optimize efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction. Oversee all aspects of the international transportation and distribution network, including air, ocean, and ground freight. Manage relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, and 3PL providers, negotiating contracts and ensuring performance standards are met. Ensure compliance with all international trade regulations, customs clearance procedures, and import/export requirements. Develop and implement processes and procedures to streamline logistics operations and improve efficiency, integrating Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma quality principles to produce measurable improvements in overall process integrity. Lead and motivate a team of logistics professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure team success. This includes cross-training and specialized skill development to create a highly flexible global workforce whose resources can be shifted to meet the spontaneous needs of the company. Analyze logistics data and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions. Collaborate with internal departments to ensure logistics operations align with business goals and customer needs. Process incoming materials to ensure compliance with Purchase Orders, Technical Specifications and related QC Documentation requirements. Manage all material and labor resources necessary to complete the shipping & receiving. Ensure adherence to and enforcement of all company policies (Safety, Human Resources, IT, or other). Conduct employee training as needed to support communication and understanding of new policies or policy changes. Perform initial accident / incident investigations and reports findings to EH & S Manager. Ensure effective employee relations. Provide employee coaching and development. Make employment decisions. Resolve employee issues through problem resolution. Track absenteeism and time-keeping including employee hiring and retention, performance review and discipline. Participation in various internal committees, review teams, or similar work groups engaged in either operational or administrative process creation, review, or improvement efforts. This includes areas such as Plant Safety, Syteline (ERP System), Process Review Board, Strategic Initiatives Program, and others. Conduct formal annual employee reviews to provide feedback on established performance criteria and identify areas for improvement and/or additional development/training. More frequent periodic reviews may be needed for new or developing employees. Execute other tasks as assigned. Ability to travel both domestically and internationally to other facilities. Will play an active role in identifying and driving Continuous Improvement (CI) opportunity. Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in global logistics and supply chain management, with a focus on international operations with 2+ years in a managerial role. Experience managing international shipments (air, ocean, and ground freight). Proven experience negotiating contracts and managing relationships with logistics service providers. In-depth knowledge of international trade regulations, customs clearance procedures, and import/export requirements. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions. Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a team. Experience with logistics/ERP software and systems (e.g., TMS, WMS, etc.). Preferred involvement in highly engineered technical products. Quality Control/Inspection, Machine Shop experience are plus. Ideal candidate would have a background in Global Logistics, Warehouse/Materials Management, and Trade Compliance. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Certification in Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma is highly desirable. Prior Lean/Six Sigma experience a plus. Awareness of and prior experience with implementing Continuous Improvement (CI) a plus.
