Job Summary
Responsible for all aspects of the diagnostic physics program and radiologic technology at Corewell Health. Responsibilities include clinical duties, innovation, teaching, research, service to the enterprise, and career development through leadership of the Diagnostic Medical Physics team, as well as involvement in professional societies. Within Imaging and other departments using imaging, responsible for image quality and radiation safety for patients and staff.
Along with the Diagnostic Medical Physics team, provides consulting services to the organization and physicians regarding clinical imaging modalities. Radiologic technology responsibilities include supporting optimization of clinical protocols and departmental projects such as radiation shielding evaluations and operational requirements for imaging equipment.
As Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), responsible for compliance with NRC and Michigan regulations regarding radiation use. Will be the designated RSO on the Corewell Health West NRC license.
Certification by the American Board of Radiology in Nuclear Medicine Physics or by the American Board of Science in Nuclear Medicine Physics and Instrumentation is required within 9 months of hire.
Essential Functions
Oversees activities of physicists and staff in physics and radiologic technology, ensuring equipment evaluation and operation standards.
Serves as the Qualified Medical Physicist for Imaging, overseeing accreditation, quality assurance, equipment testing, and optimization.
Acts as Radiation Safety Officer for Spectrum Health, managing radiation safety policies, compliance, and personnel exposure monitoring.
Performs shielding calculations and verifies integrity of protective barriers for imaging rooms.
Consults on treatment techniques, program development, and technology implementation.
Provides education on radiological physics and safety to residents, physicians, technologists, and staff.
Handles staffing responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training, performance appraisal, and addressing employee issues.
Monitors processes for quality, cost, and efficiency; engages in improvement activities and implements operational recommendations.
Participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigation, completing safety competencies and requirements timely.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required: Master's Degree in Radiological or Medical Physics
Preferred: Doctorate in Radiological or Medical Physics
5 years relevant experience in diagnostic imaging, including nuclear medicine
2 years in radiation safety programs
1 year in administrative/supervisory roles
CRT-Medical Physics - ABR in Nuclear Medicine Physics (upon hire)
CRT-Nuclear Medicine Physics and Instrumentation - ABSc in Nuclear Medicine (upon hire)
Physical Demands
Seldom to occasionally lift up to 10 lbs in various postures and activities; frequent finger/hand dexterity; other physical activities as listed.
