Job Summary Responsibleforallaspectsofthediagnosticphysicsprogramandradiologictechnologyat Corewell Health. Responsibilitiesincludeclinicalduties, innovation, teaching, research, servicetothe Corewell Health enterpriseandcareerdevelopmentthroughleadershipoftheDiagnostic Medical Physicsteamaswellasinvolvementinprofessionalsocieties. WithinImagingandfordepartmentsthatuseimaginginotherservicelines, responsibleforimagequalityandradiationsafetyforpatientsandemployees. AlongwiththeDiagnostic Medical Physicsteam, providesconsultantservicestotheorganization, aswellasthephysicians, intheclinicaluseofallimagingmodalities.Radiologictechnologyresponsibilitiesincludesupportforoptimizingclinicalprotocols. Activelyparticipatesindepartmentalprojectsincludingradiationshieldingevaluationaswellasoperationalrequirementsforimagingequipment. As Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), responsibleforcompliancewith Federal (NRC) and State ofMichiganregulationspertainingtotheuseofradiation. Thisindividualinthispositionwillbeexpectedtobethenamed RSO onthe Corewell Health West NRC license. Certificationbyeitherthe American Board ofRadiologyinNuclearMedicinePhysicsisrequiredormustbeobtainedwithin 9 monthsofhire. Alternativecertificationbythe American Board of Science inNuclearMedicineinNuclearMedicinePhysicsandInstrumentation. Essential Functions

Overseestheactivitiesofthephysicistsandanyotherstaffassignedtothephysicsand technologyarea. Isresponsibletoinsurethatallimagingequipmentisevaluatedandsatisfactorilyoperatesaccordingtostandards. ServesastheQualified Medical PhysicistforImagingat Corewell Health West. Thisincludesoversightofmodalityaccreditationeffortsandtechnicalaspectsofthedepartmentqualityassuranceprogram, whichincludesroutineequipmentqualitycontrolandinitialandannualperformancetesting, technicalreviewofproposedequipmentspecifications, aswellasoptimizationoftheimaginganddosecharacteristicsofimagingequipmentwithinthesystem. ServesasRadiation Safety Officer (RSO) for Spectrum Health Hospitals, Grand Rapidsandmanagesthefunctionsofthe SHH Radiation Safety Committee. Providestechnicalexpertiseregardingradiationsafetyissues, writingandreviewingpoliciesandprocedures,andensuringcompliancewithrelevantregulatoryand Joint Commission standards. Monitorsallemployeesexposedtoionizingradiation, asappropriate, toensurethatexposureiswithinfederalandstatelimitsandcalculatespatientdoses. Providescalculationsforshieldingdesignofdiagnostic x-ray, computerizedtomography(CT) andnuclearmedicinerooms, includingsinglephotonemissioncomputedtomography/CT (SPECT/CT) andpositronemissiontomography/CT (PET/CT) andverifiesintegrityofnewlyinstalledprotectivebarriersandprovidesreportsforfederalandstateagencies. Actsas a consultanttoandworkswithothermembersoftheteamontreatmenttechniquesforoptimizationofradiationdosedelivery, programdevelopment, andimplementationofnewtechnologiesandtreatmenttechniques. ProvidesradiologicalphysicsandradiationsafetyeducationtoDiagnosticRadiologyandInterventionalRadiologyresidentsaswellasphysicians, technologists, andotherhospitalandnursingemployeesasappropriate. Responsibilitiesincludeinterviewing, hiring, andtrainingemployees; planningandassigningwork; appraisingperformance; rewardinganddiscipliningemployees; addressingcomplaintsandresolvingproblems. Ensuresthatprocessesandservicesarecontinuouslymonitoredforquality, costeffectiveness, andefficiency. Engagesinprocessandqualityimprovementactivities. Makesandimplementsrecommendationstoimproveoperationalefficiencyandtoimplementnewservicesforareasofresponsibility. Activelyparticipatesinsafetyinitiativesandriskmitigatingmeasureswhereappropriateandcompletesallpositionandunitsafetyrelatedcompetenciesandrequirementson a timelybasis. Performsotherdutiesasassigned.
