Description: This position requires non-traditional work hours at various times throughout the year and/or season. A typical schedule is four weekdays, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. plus a Saturday or a Sunday 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. Another typical schedule is five weekdays, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or five weekdays 12:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Under the general direction of the Maintenance Services Manager, Assistant Maintenance Manager. The individual must be self-motivated and capable of initiating and developing tasks on a regular basis. The individual will perform projects as assigned by the supervisory staff. The employee is responsible for prioritizing work tasks, and for identifying and utilizing the appropriate resources to resolve a problem or situation and/or research and analyze specific data. Guidance is provided through departmental policies, Park District operating practices and procedures, and other resources as applicable to the specific project assigned. Work is evaluated at least annually, with respect to problem-solving ability, customer service, research and analytical skills, written and verbal communication skills, and performance in accordance with this classification standard.
Job Summary: This is a semi-skilled maintenance position involving the maintenance of the building/facilities, parks, properties, equipment, and machinery including building electrical/lighting systems, plumbing, carpentry, painting, machine servicing, security, pool operations, snow removal and overall park district appearance.
Responsibilities involve using motorized, electrical or hand equipment and tools, including but not limited to push mowers, zero turn mowers, line trimmers, hand, and power tools. Ensures that all support and service is conducted and fulfilled in a manner consistent with the goals and objectives of the Lake Bluff Park District and Lake Bluff Parks Division. Athletic field maintenance including rakes and cleans ball fields with both motorized and/or hand equipment. Cleans, provides preventative maintenance, and simple repairs of maintenance equipment. Plants and maintains trees, shrubs, flowers, include watering, fertilizing, and pruning. Services trash receptacles. Operates automatic and manual transmission vehicles. Snow removal on sidewalks, roads, entryways, parking lots, and walking paths. Ice Rink grooming and snow removal Performs the job safely and in compliance with Park District policies, procedures, and rules. Performs construction and maintenance of pavements, buildings, plumbing, carpentry, electrical & lighting, furnaces, ducts, water lines, shelters, benches, playground equipment, signs, fencing, sewers, and drainage structures, concrete and brick paving, stone paths, etc. Demonstrate initiative, dependability, punctuality, and the ability to complete tasks assigned in a positive manner. Special projects and other duties as assigned. Assists in the set-up/break-down of all general use areas, to include tables, chairs, audio-visual equipment, and sound equipment. Operates audio-visual and sound equipment as required. Provides some custodial tasks for the Recreation Center facility including but not limited to cleaning floors (vinyl and carpet and wood), windows, lavatories, shower/locker facilities, windows; emptying trash; dusting furniture; and arranging for occasional contract cleaning services, e.g., draperies. In outdoor areas, emptying trash receptacles, cleaning of water fountains and cleaning of outdoor furniture. Inspects and performs general maintenance of pool and other facilities (Paddle and Recreation Center) on a daily and weekly basis, when in season. Performs electrical maintenance to include but not be limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools. Performs plumbing maintenance (e.g. replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, replacing drain hoses on washers and similar devices, etc.). Performs painting, carpentry and masonry work (e.g. preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paints, stains, and varnishes, hanging doors, fitting locks and handles, etc.). Performs repairs, modifications and preventative maintenance on buildings and facilities, equipment, fixtures, and systems. Performs construction and maintenance of athletic fields and special event facilities including but not limited to temporary fencing, installing and grading infield clay/sand loam, tent/seating set- ups, moving bleachers, soccer goal assembly and repair, drain tile installation and floodwater pumping. Special projects as assigned. Demonstrate initiative, dependability, punctuality, and the ability to complete tasks assigned in a positive manner. Maintains a clean and organized work environment. Attends all meetings when appropriate. Qualifications: Must have at least two (2) years' experience, four (4) years preferred, in related field of landscape, ground maintenance, property and/or facility maintenance, one (1) year experience preferred with snowplow operations, or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
High School education or equivalent. Must have a valid Illinois Driver's License and be at least 18 years old. Illinois Pesticide Applicators license or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. Certified Playground Safety Inspector license or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire. Certified Pool Operator license or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire. Good working knowledge of landscape and grounds, maintenance tools, equipment, shop, and field practices. Ability to operate all forms of light and heavy maintenance equipment. Must be able to prioritize and follow/carry out a variety of assignments. Able to work and complete assignments with minimal supervision. Must be able to read, write, and speak in English. Certified Arborist a plus. Demonstrated knowledge and skill in facility maintenance, painting, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical repair. Ability to treat public and staff respectfully and in a positive manner. Must possess the ability to work in a cooperative manner with other departments to provide services to participants. Must have good oral and written communication skills; ability to work with minimal supervision, to solve problems and produce work on a timely basis.
