Duties And Accountabilities1
Conduct sophisticated legal research regarding commercial litigation and arbitration, analyze legal issues and present analyses as legal memoranda and documentation. Develop legal strategy, advice and recommendations for clients in domestic and international litigation and arbitration proceedings. Use strong communication skills (written and verbal) to discuss substantive legal issues with clients, opposing counsel and colleagues. Conduct research and analysis on diverse legal issues across multiple jurisdictions. Review and interpret U.S. federal and state laws regarding arbitration, bankruptcy, contracts and business, state and federal appellate and trial procedural rules, and their applicability to ongoing matters. Prepare memoranda for clients summarizing legal analysis and impacts on ongoing matters. Lead sophisticated document collection, review, and production, including overseeing a team of reviewers and e-discovery professionals and using sophisticated technological tools such as Relativity. Draft filings for ongoing litigation and arbitration proceedings, including pleadings (such as complaint and answer, and statements of claim and counterclaim), motions (such as motions to dismiss, for injunctions, and for summary judgment, motions in limine, motions for directed verdict, etc.), responses and replies to motions, responses and objections to requests for production and interrogatories and appellate briefing. Submit filings seeking attorney’s fees and costs. Assist with trial and arbitration proceedings, including preparing fact and expert witnesses, drafting direct and cross-examination outlines and assisting with the preparation of opening and closing statements. Assist with mediation and settlement discussions, including conducting legal and factual research, drafting mediation presentations and arguments, as well as settlement agreements. Represent sovereigns, pharmaceutical and healthcare, technology, financial services and construction companies around the world in high-stakes litigation and regulatory disputes. Mentor junior associates and practice assistants, including engaging on mentoring/shadowing opportunities and fostering diversity. Delegate legal and factual research to junior associates, legal assistants and practice assistants and conduct regular check ins to ensure workflow is distributed equitably and efficiently. Communicate with junior associates to contextualize how their work fits into the larger matter while taking full responsibility for all case and matter deadlines. Assist with client pitches for new business, attend pitches for new business and prepare draft communication to the client for review. Salary: $310,000-$390,000 per year.
Qualifications
J.D., LL.M., or U.S. equivalent in law plus at least 3 years of professional experience as an Attorney, Associate, Law Clerk, or related occupation/position/title at an international law firm providing legal advice to multinational companies in pharmaceutical and healthcare, technology, financial services and construction in domestic and international litigation and arbitration proceedings. Must be admitted to the Florida State Bar. Must also have experience with the following special skills: 3 years of professional experience drafting filings for ongoing litigation and arbitration proceedings, including pleadings (including complaint and answer, as well as statements of claim and counterclaim), motions (including motions to dismiss, for injunctions, for summary judgment, and for directed verdict, as well as motions in limine), responses and replies to motions, responses and objections to requests for production and interrogatories, and appellate briefing; 3 years of professional experience conducting legal research related to commercial litigation and arbitration, including bankruptcy, RICO litigation, FCCPA or FDCPA, fraud cases, contracts, and state and federal trial and appellate procedural issues; 3 years of professional experience supervising legal research, managing discovery, and leading deposition discovery, expert witness preparation, and contested court hearings and trials; 3 years of professional experience leading discovery processes, including document collection, management of reviewers, teams and e-discovery professionals, use of Relativity to conduct discovery review, and discovery requests and responses; and 2 years of professional experience with representing sovereigns in litigation and regulatory disputes, including RICO litigation.
