The Staff/Sr. Staff Attorney position is fully remote and handles a caseload of Workers’ Compensation cases, appearing before the California Workers' Compensation Boards in Marina Del Rey, Los Angeles, Van Nuys, and Oxnard. This role promotes a collaborative learning environment with remote work and onsite appearances approximately four times a year. We are dedicated to personal growth and provide ongoing CLE opportunities. Responsibilities: Analyze complex issues and conduct thorough legal research. Develop and present defense strategies independently. Draft pleadings, discovery, depositions, petitions, and trial briefs. Collaborate with Claims Partners to optimize outcomes for insureds. Provide timely legal advice and communicate effectively with clients, courts, witnesses, and counsel. Manage cases efficiently and prepare for trials, hearings, arbitrations, and dispute resolutions. Research, draft, and argue appellate briefs. Participate in team meetings and provide training to junior staff. Engage in claims reviews and continuing legal education. Qualifications: Note: This position can be filled as a Staff Attorney or Senior Staff Attorney depending on experience. Associate Attorney: JD from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in California. Legal internship or clerkship experience preferred. Familiarity with the tripartite relationship is a plus. Strong customer service commitment, legal research and writing skills, and proficiency in MS Office. Effective communicator with negotiation skills and strategic thinking abilities. Staff Attorney: At least 2 years of legal experience with complex Workers’ Compensation cases. JD from an accredited law school and licensed in California. Trial experience preferred; LexisNexis experience is a plus. Self-directed with excellent organizational skills and ability to adapt to new software. Additional Information: This role is remote with travel 1-4 days weekly within specified California locations. We require high-speed internet (minimum 10 Mbps upload, 100 Mbps download). Compensation: The annual base pay ranges from $81,840 to $172,200, based on experience and performance. Compensation includes other rewards such as bonuses and incentives. Our total rewards package is competitive and comprehensive.
