The client is a well-established, midsize regional bank in Tennessee. They have multi-billion dollars in assets under management and over 30 locations nationally. The bank is seeking a
seasoned Interim Chief Information Officer (CIO)
to provide executive-level IT leadership during a period of transition. This individual will report directly to the CEO (with board interaction) and will work closely with internal stakeholders to guide technology strategy, oversee critical IT initiatives, and mentor a designated internal successor for the permanent CIO role. This is a
hands-on, collaborative leadership role
ideal for a senior executive who can operate effectively in a lean, high-performing environment with complex operational and regulatory demands. Key Responsibilities Provide strategic oversight and tactical leadership across all areas of IT, including infrastructure, cybersecurity, software development, and regulatory technology. Lead the bank’s ongoing
data automation and transparency initiatives , ensuring compliance with regulatory consent orders. Partner with internal teams and regulators to address complex systems, data lineage, and compliance reporting requirements. Act as a mentor to the designated CIO successor, with a focus on leadership development and knowledge transfer. Oversee relationships with key third-party vendors and technology partners Support and enable enterprise-wide digital transformation and IT modernization efforts. Cultivate a culture of accountability, teamwork, and cross-functional collaboration within the IT department. Team Structure Direct Reports Include Director of IT IT Development Manager Head of Delivery Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Team Size:
Approximately 40 IT professionals Ideal Candidate Profile: Must-Have Qualifications Prior experience as CIO or senior IT executive in a banking or financial services organization. Strong understanding of
banking regulatory environments , especially in areas such as
data lineage ,
compliance reporting , and
customer transparency . Proven success managing IT in complex environments with
disproportionate scale
(“small bank, big impact”). Experience leading across
infrastructure ,
cybersecurity , and
software development . Hands-on leadership style with the ability to engage tactically while thinking strategically. High emotional intelligence and a collaborative, communicative approach. Cultural alignment with a people-first, humility-driven organization. Preferred / Strong Pluses Familiarity with
Jack Henry
systems or similar core banking platforms. Experience in
banking-as-a-service ,
e-banking , or
high-volume transaction environments . Working knowledge of
cloud infrastructure
(especially
Azure ),
API integrations , and system interoperability. Background in managing through
regulatory audits ,
