$115,000.00/yr - $135,000.00/yr Director of Finance and Accounting The Director of Finance & Accounting is responsible for guiding the financial health of the company. This role oversees all accounting functions, ensures compliance, drives process improvement, and partners with executive leadership on strategic initiatives. Who we are looking for: Must have experience: At least 5 years of experience with high level, full cycle, corporate accounting - comprehensive technical accounting, financial reporting and GAAP expertise At least 3 years of recent active high level construction accounting experience – job cost accounting, WIP, CTC At least 3 years managing a team in accounting Characteristics that succeed in this position: Strategic thinker with attention to detail Strong communicator and cross-functional collaborator Proactive problem-solver with a growth mindset Demonstrated commitment to team development and high ethical standards Core Responsibilities Lead, manage and hold accountable (LMA) all Accounting staff Company financial reporting and analysis Monitor and control project and corporate costs Ensure compliance with financial regulations and contractual obligations Oversee the accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely invoicing, collections, and payments Manage cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures Plan, organize and coordinate the year-end close process with internal and external auditors Prepare financial statements, including cash flow statements Plan, budget and authorize expenditures Hire, train and retain accounting staff Design and implement cost accounting systems Financial Accounting

– Accurate and Timely Preparation of Reports, Oversee payables and receivables, Payroll, etc. Deliver timely and accurate monthly/annual financial statements, including company-wide and departmental P&Ls, cash flow, budget variance, and financial dashboards Perform analysis on financial results, trends, costs and budgets Prepare forecast reports for income, expenses and earnings Prepare annual budgets prior to year end Prepare monthly WIP schedules, ensuring appropriate revenue recognition Prepare weekly cash flow reports and analysis Monitor project and corporate budgets Ensure accounting activities are in compliance with GAAP Review tax schedules and returns, ensuring corporate income tax compliance Creating and implementing policies and procedures to identify, resolve and document accounting issues Create procedures to make close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analysis Document preparation for audits Monitor and reconcile payroll accruals Job Cost Accounting Track actual costs against budgeted amounts, report and analyze variances Allocate costs to specific projects accurately Review and approve project expenses, verifying accuracy, legitimacy and proper documentation Prepare and distribute job cost analyses, ensuring precision and timeliness, and providing insights into project profitability Manage the billing process for projects, ensuring accurate and timely invoicing Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and standards Maintain organized and accessible records Team Leadership and Development

– Training, Mentoring and Support Lead the strategic hiring, onboarding, and development of accounting staff to ensure a high-performing team that supports both current operations and future organizational growth Provide leadership for compliance and documentation processes, including Draws, Change Orders, Notices, and Releases Assure timeliness and quality of work Provide opportunities for staff training and advancement Set example for high ethical standards Conduct thorough and meaningful staff reviews Organizational Skills

– Delegation, Prioritization, Time Management Effectively prioritizes scheduling of tasks and activities Delegates tasks to staff as appropriate Uses time management system to maximize productivity and minimize stress Achieves work/life balance Communication –

Positive, Productive External and Internal Communication Excellent verbal and written communication with customers, subcontractors and staff Careful attention to level of technical communication as relates to lay personnel and those with limited accounting training Diplomatic communication at all levels Technical and Subject Knowledge

– Accounting and Software expertise Sage, hh2, Procore, Asana, MS Suite Current on rules and regulations as they apply to company financial management Train accounting and operations staff on software Education Requirements Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting but prefer a master’s degree or certification such as the CPA, CGMA, CMA or CCIFP Physical Requirements Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer Ability to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment (e.g., copier, scanner, telephone) Frequent use of hands and fingers for data entry and document handling Occasionally required to stand, walk, bend, or reach Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally (e.g., boxes of documents or office supplies) Visual acuity to read and produce documents, spreadsheets, and reports Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, over the phone, and via email Location This position in office, non-remote, in our Carlsbad location Reports To VP of Innovation & Administration We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package and an excellent supportive work environment.
