Responsibilities
nThe Medical Assistant is responsible for working within a float pool at the various Baylor St. Luke's Medical Group Clinics to assist with supplemental staffing. The expert level Medical Assistant demonstrates a mastery level of proficiency in delivering patient care in the ambulatory care setting. Performs patient care responsibilities and provides clerical and administrative support in a clinical setting
nServes as a float pool resource to various clinics within designated, local region.
nPerforms routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs, venipuncture (blood draws), collect specimens, EKGs/ECGs, and POCTs.
nCollects patient history, performs medication reconciliation and enters information in the electronic medical record.
nNotes the primary complaint/reason for patient's visit.
nSets up instruments and equipment for medical provider (MD, DO, PA NP).
nAssist with procedures as needed.
nAdminister medication under direction / order of a supervising medical provider (MD, DO, PA NP).
nInstructs patients on general care and medical procedures as appropriate to scope of practice for an MA.
nMaintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
nSchedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments.
nConduct patient outreach phone calls and post visit follow-ups.
nResponds to routine patient phone calls and MyChart messages and route to RN, ACP or Physician as needed.
nPerforms clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
nTake inventory of clinic supplies and order supplies as needed.
nSupports the clinic / departments compliance with regulatory requirements.
nPerforms functions of the Office Associate/ Patient Access Representative and is cross-trained to fill in this role as needed
nConduct Performance Improvement activities that support the clinic / departments goals for quality, patient experience, patient safety and/or efficiency.
nSorts and distributes clinic mail and medical records to the appropriate clinic personnel.
nFlexible, dependable, hardworking, willing to work in a float pool position and be adaptable.
nOther duties as assigned.
nQualifications
nRequired Education and Experience
nHigh school diploma or equivalent required.
nCurrent/valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification required or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required if applicable.
nRequired Licensure and Certifications
nSuccessfully completed Medication Aide 40-hour course or current/valid Medication Aide certification by state agency required if applicable.
nBasic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS) required. From American Heart Association
nRequired Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training
nAbility to perform EKGs, draw blood and administer injections.
nAbility to effectively communicate to staff and patients.
nDemonstrated knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
nThrough knowledge of the meaning and use of medical terminology and abbreviations.
nDemonstrate sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situations.
nMaintains a positive, caring attitude towards patients.
nGood computer skills using a medical management application.
nPossess a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism
