Our Claims Data Science team is currently seeking a Senior Azure Platform Engineer to join our growing team in a hybrid or remote work arrangement.
This is a full time, exempt role.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Sr. Platform Engineer will lead the development, implementation, and optimization of technical solutions for one of the Hanover's lines of business or functions.
This role will be responsible for building technology capabilities using predefined configurations, while incorporating emerging technologies and innovative solutions. This role requires the ability to collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver technical solutions in both cloud and on-premises environments, along with a strong ability to mentor and guide teams in adopting technologies and best practices.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
Oversee the implementation and integration of cloud-based applications and hands-on technical delivery of new services and capabilities Adhere to governance standards that ensure security, proper controls, and end-to-end automation of deployment, monitoring, and infrastructure management in the cloud environment. Understand Infrastructure as Code scripts and pipelines to aid in the journey to automate deployment of resources. Collaborate with Architecture, Application, and Operations teams to ensure alignment with enterprise technology roadmaps and lifecycle management. Provide troubleshooting subject matter expertise during projects, initiatives, and incidents. Identify technological risks and recommend solutions, proactively seeking out unknown vulnerabilities and escalating when necessary. Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies and cost-effective solutions to meet business needs and improve operational efficiency. Partner with architects, technology, and business stakeholders to implement capabilities and patterns for security, data, and operations in the cloud. Analyze industry trends, market shifts, and internal deficiencies to recommend strategic improvements. Support and manage strategic vendor and partner relationships to ensure service quality and innovation. Lead or contribute to domain-specific projects, including DevOps initiatives, automation rollouts, and cloud modernization efforts. WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent certifications). Minimum 5+ years in an information technology function, or technology team, with a focus on deployment and migration of applications and services into the cloud. Proven leadership in managing offshore teams, managed services, vendor relationships, and cross-functional collaboration. Promotes a culture of accountability, empowerment, and continuous coaching. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build executive-level relationships and influence stakeholders. Strategic mindset with the ability to analyze trends, identify opportunities, and align technology with business goals. Advanced analytical and diagnostic skills to resolve complex, cross-domain issues. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences. Ability to work in a highly collaborative and highly matrixed, fast-paced, entrepreneurial, transparent, and flexible work environment. Strong organizational and planning abilities with a focus on both short-term execution and long-term vision. Must be eligible to work in the US without requiring sponsorship now or in the future (ie. US citizen or green card holder) TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
Deep expertise in Microsoft Azure, including Azure Fabric, Data Lake Storage, SQL Database, Azure DevOps, Azure Web Apps, Azure App Service, and Azure Synapse. Strong understanding of Azure Core Platform: Compute, Storage, Networking, and Disaster Recovery. Experience with Azure Pricing, Savings Plans, and cost optimization strategies. Proficient in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Platform as Code (PaC), Security as Code (SaC), and CI/CD pipelines. Knowledgeable of associated frameworks and practices. Skilled in automated provisioning of environments (Dev/Test/Prod) and cloud-native monitoring tools (e.g., Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Azure Site Recovery). Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes). Strong knowledge of cloud security, data governance, and compliance in cloud environments. Proficient in Azure Active Directory (AAD)/Entra ID for identity and access management. Skilled in PowerShell, Azure CLI, and scripting for automation and deployment.
