MRI Technologist

Under general supervision, performs magnetic resonance imaging studies using a magnetic resonance imaging device, which includes preparing patients, positioning, setting imaging parameters, and performing computer processing and displaying images. Assists in developing protocol for patient studies. Performs quality control procedures on equipment. Principal duties and responsibilities include: Explaining examination procedure to patients and preparing patient for the examination. Reviewing clinical data on requisition and performing appropriate examination. Obtaining additional information about the patient medical history as necessary to ensure a safe procedure for the patient. Preparing procedure room and regularly replenishing stock such linen and related supplies. Analyzing anatomical structure of patient, setting up equipment and performing the MRI scan. Manually controlling the equipment to obtain the proper diagnostic information from the area of the body being studied. Administering contrast and monitoring patient for possible reactions as appropriate to the study. Preparing and setting up sterile equipment, monitors, and supplies required for the procedure to be performed. Ensuring the adequate supplies are on hand and properly stored. Assisting Radiologist in performing complex diagnostic procedures such as biopsies. Education/experience required: High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required. Must maintain the required hours of continued education. Healthcare Provider certification required. (BCLS) Two (2) years of experience in Radiography is recommended but not mandatory. Certifications/Licensures required: Must be registered with the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT), or must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography, American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) with the advanced ARRT registry in MRI or registry eligible. If registry eligible, registry must be obtained within 12 months of date of hire. Failure to obtain registry within the designated time frame will result in termination of the Magnetic Resonance Technologist position.
