Cytogenetic Technologist

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina Reporting To: Cytogenetics Supervisor / Laboratory Manager Position Summary

The Cytogenetic Technologist conducts microscopic and molecular analysis of human chromosomes to support diagnoses of congenital disorders, hematologic malignancies, fertility issues, and prenatal abnormalities. The technologist is responsible for culturing, harvesting, slide preparation, karyotyping, FISH/array analysis, and reporting findings in ISCN format to healthcare providers. Collect and prepare biological specimens (e.g., blood, bone marrow, amniotic fluid, tissue) using aseptic technique Establish and maintain cell cultures; harvest, fix and prepare slides for analysis using banding protocols Perform karyotyping, FISH, and chromosomal microarray analyses as assigned Prepare findings using ISCN nomenclature; document through lab information systems Accurately record QC, maintain logs, and follow CLIA/HIPAA/OSHA compliance Collaborate with pathologists and genetic counselors on complex cases, and assist in training junior staff or trainees Perform daily instrument maintenance and participate in proficiency testing as required May work rotating shifts, weekends, or overtime based on specimen load Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Cytogenetic Technology, Medical Technology, Biology, or related science ASCP CLS(CG) certification (or eligible within 1 year) required; MLS with on-the-job cytogenetics training may be considered Preferred 12 years of cytogenetics experience, including FISH and array methodologies Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and analytical skills Knowledge of ISCN standards and comfortable working with microscopes and image capture systems Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to work within multidisciplinary teams For immediate consideration, send a resume to marissak@ka-recruiting.com
