Due to available budget allocated for this position, the hiring rate will not exceed $26.19 per hour.
Why does the job exist?
This position will provide general maintenance to include carpentry related jobs, sheet rock, painting, repairing floors, cleaning and similar duties within adult correctional facilities at Central Office and the Training Academy
How does it get done?
* Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance work indoors and outdoors * Maintain equipment and tools * Prepare work orders * Supervise inmate work crews within an adult correctional facility
Who are the customers?
* New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD) staff * Public and private partners * Community members
Ideal Candidate
Experience with the following: * Working as an electrician * Working in other areas of maintenance * Operating vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalency.
Employment Requirements
This position is safety sensitive. Employment is subject to a pre-employment and random drug testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state rules and regulations regarding alcohol and/or drug testing. In addition, candidates must pass pre-employment academy screening. Successful completion of the New Mexico Corrections Academy within one (1) year of hire is required. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen, must be at least 18 years old, have at least a high school education or its equivalent, be of good moral character, have not been convicted of a felony in the courts of this or any state or in the federal courts, and successfully pass any physical and aptitude examination the department may be required. Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with and supervision of inmates. Willingness to work in a correctional facility, may be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
