Intern - College - Weatherization
The CPS Energy Internship Program is designed to meet the industry's rapidly changing workforce needs by providing local San Antonio college students with public utility career experience. Through the internship program students are paired with a mentor to acquire meaningful hands-on experience that expands their understanding of how the industry works and exposes them to essential skills they must acquire or develop to be successful. The internship is not only meant for the intern to learn how to perform, but to also understand the rationale behind the strategies that are being used. The weatherization program internship is designed to provide those interested in pursuing a career in Energy Efficiency with an opportunity to obtain a fundamental knowledge of the physical, academic, and practical skills required for a successful career. Interns are assigned to an experienced Weatherization Auditor with technical duties in Energy Efficiency, including calibration of CO test equipment, blower door and test equipment, health and safety checks at customers' homes, and evaluation of dwellings for the Casa Verde program. All team members will serve as an Instructor, Safety Enforcer, Role Model, and Mentor, providing an optimal hands-on and safe learning experience. Deadline to apply: Thursday, August 21, 2025 Tasks and Responsibilities: Must report to assigned worksite as scheduled. The intern will attend and participate in a 2-day training program. Attend daily Safety Tailboard meetings and perform stretching exercises. Intern will become familiar with general safety information and understand hazards associated with Casa Verde Weatherization work, equipment uses and calibration. The intern will learn the importance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and the Safety Guidelines that must be followed to ensure overall job safety. Intern will learn how to identify tools and equipment used in Weatherization. Intern will learn how to use all hand tools and how to audit and inspect a home for Weatherization. Responsible for data entry of work orders into tracking system Responsible for cleaning tools, equipment, materials, and specified work areas as needed. Report to assigned Auditor. Ability to learn and present program information customers and contractors. Intern will perform fewer complex duties. Intern Weatherization performs technical duties in Weatherization audits, including operation and use of CO detector, moisture meter, blower door test equipment, writing reports, entering reports into systems, creating, and participating in training sessions with the team for Casa Verde contractors. Assist Auditor with keeping job site clean and free of any hazards. Intern must be physically fit and able to lift 40 lbs., climb stairs and ladders as needed. Performs other duties as appropriate for an intern Minimum Skills: Personal Computer Usage Minimum Knowledge and Abilities: Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Attend all activities sponsored by CPS Energy during employment. Must reside in CPS Energy service area A minimum GPA of 2.0 Preferred Qualifications: Basic hand tool knowledge Strong communication skills and punctuality Reliable transportation to and from Strong organizational skills Must have customer service skills. Competencies: Communicates Effectively Learning Quickly Working Safely Serving Customers Delivering High Quality Work Adapting to Others Minimum Education: Must be a college student; currently enrolled in a related discipline Required Certifications: Working Environment: Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and presenting. Use of personal computing equipment, phone, multi-functioning printer & calculator. Ability to travel to & from meetings, training sessions or other busi-related events.
