Controller
We are a dynamic and growing Personal Injury law firm based in Los Angeles seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to lead and manage our financial operations. The ideal candidate has a strong background in accounting, experience in a professional services environment (preferably legal), and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset. This role will report directly to the firm's executive leadership and will be critical in ensuring financial health, compliance, and strategic planning as we scale. Responsibilities: Manage existing accounting personnel including AP, AR, Trust Accounting, and Bookkeeping positions. Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll. Lead process improvement initiatives across billing, collections, accounts payable, and expense management to accelerate closing process. Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closings. Prepare and present financial reports to firm leadership, including P&L statements, balance sheets, and cash flow forecasts. Manage the budgeting and forecasting process; monitor performance to budget and provide insights. Implement and maintain effective internal controls and financial policies. Oversee trust accounting and ensure compliance with legal industry standards and bar regulations. Manage relationships with banking institutions and external vendors. Evaluate and implement financial systems and process improvements. Partner with the Director of Human Resources to manage and renew employee benefits programs, including health, dental, life, and disability insurance. Evaluate coverage options, recommend cost-effective changes, and assess new benefit offerings as needed. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred) 7+ years of progressive accounting experience; experience as a Controller or Assistant Controller strongly preferred Prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment huge plus Strong understanding of legal billing, trust accounting, and client cost recovery is preferred. Advanced knowledge of GAAP, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting Proficient in accounting software
QuickBooks Online Preferred Experience with Salesforce CRM or similar CRM is preferred Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities Excellent communication and leadership skills Highly organized with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment Experience working with executive leadership on strategic financial planning
