Organization's Summary Statement: Resumes are currently being accepted for the Adjunct Faculty-Mathematics position. Adjunct Faculty will teach classes in the Department of Mathematics on an as-needed basis. The ideal candidate will be a skillful and enthusiastic educator who is committed to interactive, student-centered teaching of undergraduate mathematics. Individuals teaching College Algebra will need to be available on four Thursdays from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm (the University hour) each semester. Individuals teaching lower-level mathematics courses will need to be available on the Saturday immediately following the last day of class for the common final exam. Excellent oral and written communication skills are an essential requirement for this position. Benefits: UMES offers exciting opportunities for professional growth. Responsibilities: Teach up to three (3) in-person classes (per semester) of lower-level mathematics: Intermediate Algebra, Applications of College Mathematics, Topics of Mathematical Literacy, College Algebra, and Trigonometry. Deliver engaging lectures, lead class discussions, and conduct other teaching activities. Provide timely and constructive feedback to students on their progress and performance. Accurately calculate and submit grades for all students on time (including midterm and final grades). Adhere to the assignment workload, due dates, grading policies, and other general requirements for the course as prescribed in the standardized syllabus. Update the required Canvas shell for the class and use it for required class activities. Maintain weekly office hours and answer emails or other communications in a timely fashion. Perform other duties as assigned. Physical Demands: May require extended periods of standing, bending, sitting at desk. May require lifting up to 25 lbs. Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and internally. Requires operation of a variety of office equipment. Preferences: A master's degree or higher in Mathematics or a related field. Individuals with degrees outside of the United States may be subject to verification. Availability to teach classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in the time frame between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm is a plus. Experience integrating technology into the classroom, working with students (first generation, first year, etc.), and colleagues from diverse backgrounds is highly desired. Minimum Qualifications: The title Lecturer will ordinarily be used to designate appointments of persons who are serving in a teaching capacity for a limited time or part-time. The normal requirement is a Master's degree in the field of instruction or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in the field of instruction. Appointments to this rank are typically one to three years and are renewable.
