The City of Arkansas City is seeking candidates for a full-time position with a salary range of $14.97 to $27.29 hourly. This position is located in Arkansas City, KS, under the Public Services Department's Street & Stormwater Division. The general overview of the position and responsibilities includes performing a variety of maintenance work and operating equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City streets and stormwater drainage. The role operates under the general guidance and direction of the Street & Stormwater Supervisor and does not exercise supervision over others. Essential functions of the job may include safely operating power construction and maintenance equipment, motor vehicles, and ensuring the proper maintenance of equipment and tools. The position also involves inspecting and repairing streets and drainage systems, regulating traffic in hazardous conditions, and performing construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include the ability to operate listed tools and equipment safely, communicate effectively, and establish and maintain effective working relationships. The employee is committed to upholding the City's core values, including professional ethics, commitment to citizens through customer service, and commitment to excellence. Although not required, the employee must learn to operate various types of equipment and must possess a minimum valid Class C driver's license with a safe driving record. Pre-employment testing includes criminal history background checks, physical capacity profile, drug screen, and alcohol testing. The work environment involves frequent outdoor work, exposure to various hazards, and heavy physical work, including exerting significant force occasionally and frequently, and involving various physical activities.
