Associate Director Of Communications

Nebraska Wesleyan University is seeking a full-time Associate Director of Communications responsible for enhancing the visibility and reputation of Nebraska Wesleyan University through a variety of strategic communication efforts. The incumbent will collaborate closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications, President's Office, and campus constituents to develop and execute communication strategies that support the University's institutional priorities. Responsibilities: Serves as a member of the University's marketing and communications team to create and implement external communication to promote the University and internal communication for employees and students. Writes stories for the University's website, social media accounts, and marketing materials. Serves as the primary point of contact for the University's media relations and emergency communications. Supervises employees in digital communications and multimedia roles. Assists with developing social media strategies and content. Collaborates with the President's Office to respond to media inquiries and manage sensitive issues. Serves as the University spokesperson as delegated. Cultivates and maintains relationships with news media and influential professionals. Arranges media interviews and writes news releases to promote the University. Collaborates with University leaders to develop and execute strategic communication plans for University initiatives and events, including talking points. Arranges media interviews and writes news releases to promote the University. Communicates safety and security information to employees and students through designated communication channels, including the Wesleyan Alert System. Also serves on the Risk Management Committee and Threat Assessment Team. Works an extended schedule, which may include weekends and evenings according to demands of the role and tasks. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications, or equivalent degree or equivalent experience. 3-5 years of public relations or professional communications experience. Experience in copywriting, editing, and/or proofreading is preferred. Must demonstrate strong attention to detail. Ability to research, conduct interviews, and write compelling stories. Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with local media and respond to their needs. Must be available during emergencies or crisis situations and assist in developing appropriate response messaging. Must be collaborative and responsive to projects as directed by University leadership. Must possess strong professional communication skills, including business writing, public speaking in both small and large groups, and effective interpersonal communication. Ability to actively listen, engage, and influence stakeholders; synthesize and convey complex information; assess communication challenges and opportunities; and evaluate newsworthiness. Demonstrated ability to high degrees of accountability, strong organizational, decision-making, problem-solving skills and maintaining confidential information.
