O.R. Orderly
The O.R. Orderly provides general non-technical assistance to the perioperative staff. Responsible for transporting patients to the OR and back to the nursing units, pulling supplies/cases for surgeries, maintaining supplies in the operating room. Responsibilities
Maintains the area, equipment, and level of supplies. Accurately and completely gathers supplies for cases using Pick Lists. Accurately requests supplies from General Stores as needed. Cleans shelves and carts weekly, checking expiration dates, as designated. Requests and stocks linens. Brings stretchers to the OR area as needed. Transports patients to the OR with careful attention to isolation needs, safety issues with regards to hand off communication from nursing staff. Maintains surgery warmers with adequate stock and appropriately marked with expiration dates. Performs a variety of assisting and servicing activities, both with the patients and to help maintain the area. Assists with lifting, moving, and positioning patients at the nurse's request. Is available to assist Surgery Supervisor and other staff when needed. Provides and gives cooperative and courteous service to patients, staff, visitors, and others as part of the organization's commitment to quality services. Interacts with all others in a considerable, helpful, and courteous manner as established by departmental practice and procedure. Maintains composure during stressful situations. Maintains confidentiality of designated hospital and patient information at all times as observed by staff and Director. Presents a neat appearance in appropriate dress and identification as required by position, department, and hospital policy. Works effectively as part of the healthcare team to facilitate the unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives. Readily assumes all other duties and responsibilities as needed. Maintains open communication with Surgery Supervisor and/or Director. Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards. Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens. Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the patient as defined in the scope of service, to assure that the unique nature of the client is addressed. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intradepartmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives. Qualifications
High School Diploma Required 1-3 years Former experience as orderly or surgery experience preferred. Working knowledge of problem solving and decision making skills. Working knowledge of digital literacy skills. BLS Required
