Virtualization Engineer

As a VMware Systems Engineer, you will play a mission-critical role in designing, securing, and optimizing virtualized infrastructure for our intelligence community partner in Springfield, VA. Leveraging your deep expertise in VMware technologies and systems engineering, you'll lead the implementation and sustainment of robust compute environments that support high-impact national security missions. Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the architecture, design, and implementation of scalable, secure compute systems leveraging VMware virtualization technologies (vSphere, ESXi, NSX/NSX-T, Aria Automation, and Aria Operations). Help lead system engineering efforts including environment planning, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management for virtualization and compute infrastructure. Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis across VMware environments, Windows Server, and Linux operating systems. Ensure environments meet security and compliance requirements by implementing best practices and supporting the Assessment and Accreditation (A&A) process. Develop and maintain technical documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and user guides for new and existing systems. Conduct testing and validation to ensure systems meet operational and user requirements. Provide Tier 2/3 operational support for virtualization platforms, responding to incidents and service requests within SLA guidelines. Deliver training and mentorship to junior engineers; serve as a technical lead on projects and task orders. Define system specifications, input/output processes, and hardware/software integration standards. Engage with clients and stakeholders to gather requirements, present solutions, and ensure alignment with mission goals. Stay current on emerging technologies and contribute to special projects, pilots, and system enhancements. Design and deploy VMware Aria Operations and/or Log Insight in production environments, including custom dashboards and policy creation. Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in computer science, computer engineering, systems engineering or any related field/major, or 4 additional years of experience in information technology. 5+ years of hands-on systems engineering experience with a strong focus on VMware virtualization technologies Expertise in VMware vSphere, ESXi (6.7/7.0/8.0), NSX/NSX-T, Aria Operations (vROps), and Aria Automation (vRA) Experience with Windows Server (2016/2019/2022), Windows 10/11, and Unix/Linux systems Proficiency in networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, Active Directory (AD), and Group Policy Objects (GPO) Desired Skills:
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure Familiarity with Cisco UCS Cloud Platform Workflow and blueprint development within VMware Aria Automation ServiceNow integration and ticketing workflows Strong technical communication and documentation skills Prior experience supporting Intelligence and/or Department of Defense (DoD) clients Familiarity with Cisco UCS infrastructure and VMware or UCS certifications (preferred but not required) Required Clearance
