Fiber Optics Program Trainer
The Network Transport Services Portfolio team ensures the safety, reliability, and optimal performance of Colorado Springs Utilities' fiber, microwave, and telecommunications infrastructure. We are currently seeking a Fiber Optics Program Trainer to design, deliver, and manage training programs for Network Transport Services personnel. This role is essential in ensuring all training aligns with system design standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable codes. Key responsibilities of this position include: Develops, delivers, and maintains training programs for fiber technicians and apprentices, ensuring alignment with safety standards, regulations, and technical specifications Conducts hands-on training, including ladder climbing, rescue procedures, and hazard identification Evaluates employee performance, provides coaching, and tracks training progress and compliance Designs and updates training materials and curricula for in-house and apprenticeship programs Coordinates with internal and external partners to facilitate training activities Reviews technical documents and provides subject-matter expertise to fiber construction crews Continuously improves training programs to reflect industry best practices and customer expectations Who You Are: Valid Colorado Driver's License Minimum five years of fiber optic installation/maintenance experience or completion of CSU's Fiber Apprenticeship Program plus two years of journey-level experience High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred Strong communication skills with the ability to adapt training for diverse audiences Proficient in fiber optic splicing, outside plant infrastructure, and safety practices Ability to analyze and apply training performance metrics Commitment to workplace safety and regulatory compliance Certifications (Required within 6 months of hire): One or more of the following (or equivalent): BICSI - Installer 2 and Optical Fiber Certifications, Fiber Optic Association
CFOT, CFOS/O, CFOS/T, and CFOS/S Certifications, ETA International
