Tax & Fixed Assets is an integral part of the Finance department and will work closely with the Equipment department as well. This role is responsible for managing the organization's tax compliance and reporting functions as well as overseeing fixed asset accounting. The position will be in charge of preparing monthly sales/use tax returns, annual personal property tax returns, gathering necessary information for the preparation of annual tax returns, identifying tax saving opportunities, and ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local tax regulations. In addition, this position will be responsible for tracking, recording, analyzing and reporting on the Company's fixed assets throughout their life cycle. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills and the ability to collaborate across departments. Prepare and file federal, state and local tax returns for sales/use and personal property Research requirements for doing business in new locations and the registration process Manage all aspects of fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals and physical equipment counts Analyze asset utilization and identify potential areas for cost reduction or improvement Assist with any tax audits conducted by regulatory agencies, providing necessary documentation and explanations. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Analyze business transactions and propose tax-efficient strategies to minimize tax liabilities and maximize deductions. Review financial statements to identify potential tax issues and make necessary adjustments. Conduct research on complex tax matters to determine appropriate treatment and advise management. Prepare regular tax reports for management, including tax forecasts and projections. Review purchase orders and invoices for new fixed assets to ensure proper capitalization Coordinate with procurement and receiving departments to document asset receipt and movement Perform regular physical equipment counts to verify asset existence and condition Update asset records with changes such as location transfers, repairs, or upgrades Assist Equipment Director in analyzing owned vs rent decisions Preparation of all necessary tax returns (personal property, sales/use, etc) Stay up to date on relevant regulations and accounting pronouncements in relation to taxes and fixed assets Assist with external auditors and tax advisors on audits and compliance reviews Other relevant tasks as assigned Education, Experience & Qualifications: 5+ years of relevant experience required. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field. Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, fixed asset accounting, and corporate tax regulations. Proficient in accounting software and tax preparation tools. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities. Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams. Travel is not required for this position. As a Tax Accountant, you will be subject to a traditional office setting. The employee must be comfortable with sitting for an extended period.
