Deputy Treasurer

The Kenosha County Treasurer's Office is looking for a detail-oriented, customer-focused Deputy Treasurer. The Deputy Treasurer works under the direction of the County Treasurer and assists in the performance of the duties of the County Treasurer's Office in accordance with Section 59.25 of the Wisconsin Statutes. The responsibilities for this position consist of receipting property tax payments, dog park fees, and attorney badge fees from the public as well as receipting various payments from various County departments. In addition, this position is responsible for answering phone calls from banks and residents and making payment plans with delinquent taxpayers as well as helping to facilitate the tax deed process. This position has the primary responsibility for processing mail, receipting tax payments, managing the lottery credit application process, completing reports for the state of Wisconsin, and assisting with communications with the public. Duties include: Establish payment plans with taxpayers Answer phone calls and receipt tax payments Work with taxpayers on various issues Assist with the Tax Deed/In Rem process On a monthly basis, run reports, balance and pay out fees to the State of Wisconsin Make payments to suppliers and municipalities as well as payments to title search companies and process server companies for services used Balance ROD payments daily Send out notices to those who are delinquent on prior year taxes to aid in tax collection Help to manage reserved parking space fees, passes, and issues Be primary point of contact for the application of lottery credits for the public, municipalities, and the state Help to handle NSF checks for tax payments Reconcile imprest cash and cash drawers Enter special assessments onto the tax bills and confirm accuracy with municipalities Process mail and keep accurate records of returned and refunded payments Perform other work as required or assigned Other Experience and Qualifications: Experience working in banking, accounting, customer service, and/or cash handling required Work experience in a government setting preferred Knowledge of how to use Catalis' LandNav system Knowledge of how to effectively use Excel for tracking and balancing Knowledge of property taxes Skill in Excel and the tax system Skill in all principles of accounting and general understanding of banking Communication skills Skill in budgeting Skill in cash handling Customer service skills Ability to document well and be organized Ability to track and monitor hundreds of properties and payment plans and calculate appropriate payment plans Ability to access and understand state systems to file payments with them Ability to use Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel Ability to use ERP system Research ability Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks Ability to remain professional and courteous at all times Ability to maintain confidential information Ability to communicate well with the public Ability to work respectfully in a diverse and inclusive environment Physical demands include exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
