The Richmond Engine Laboratory (CREL) is a customer-focused service group within *** that supports client research activities used to develop and evaluate performance of fuels (gasoline/diesel) and fuel additives. The lab conducts engine tests using vehicles, automotive engine test stands, and specialized research engines. The Shift Technician position is an integral part of a dedicated team consisting primarily of mechanics and technicians.
Responsibilities: - Works rotating (Day, Swing and Grave) shifts. -Operates automotive test engines and vehicles according to established specifications. -Monitors all operations and makes necessary adjustments to control systems to ensure specification compliance. -Performs diagnosis of problems and makes repairs to test engines and control systems. -Maintains adequate fuel supply to all engines and vehicles. -Strong mechanical aptitude is essential.
Required Qualifications: -3-5 years of experience with: -Experience working with automotive engines or mechanical systems -Experience working in a technical environment. -General engine knowledge through recent education or work experience as a mechanic. -Monitoring and adjusting process control systems. -Basic math skills (algebra). -Excellent teamwork skills. High School Diploma OR GED required
Preferred Qualifications: -Basic computer skills, experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). -Formal training in automotive technology, electronics, or automated control systems -Experience working shift work / off hours (highly desirable). -Formal technical training in automotive mechanic/technology (ASE Certified or similar certification). -Formal training in electronic instrumentation.
Rotating Shift: **There are 3 shifts (morning, swing, grave) the worker is expected to be available for all three. The worker will work each shift two-four months at a time -Morning Shift: 5am-1pm; Swing Shift: 1pm-9pm; Grave Shift: 9pm-5am -Every 2-4 months will alternate shifts AND days of week working (Monday-Friday or Wednesday-Sunday)***
