Job Description
The Tax Managing Director, State and Local Taxation, is responsible for providing written tax advice to clients, evaluating and recommending courses of action to reduce tax burdens and compliance costs, recognizing potential tax risks, and identifying changes in tax policy and regulations. This role involves marketing, networking, business development within their area of expertise, and maintaining key client relationships. The Director is a vital part of the office / region's Tax Services leadership team and serves as a resource for guidance on complex tax issues.
Responsibilities

- Prepare tax implication studies and outline alternatives
- Collaborate with tax professionals to resolve complex matters
- Tax Compliance
- Manage engagement metrics
- Drive sales tax compliance services
- Tax Consulting
- Draft responses to tax authorities
- Monitor project implementation
- Provide solutions based on tax knowledge and industry insights
- Tax Controversy
- Respond to agency questions
- Tax Specialization
- Identify cross-selling opportunities
- Manage SALT services for clients
- Develop tools to improve SALT practice efficiency
- Financial and Strategic Development
- Participate in industry groups
- Lead marketing and SALT initiatives
- Supervise and review work of SALT team members
- Ensure training on tax software
- Evaluate performance and develop goals
- Provide feedback and career guidance
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required
- Master's degree and JD preferred
- Minimum 10 years SALT experience
- Experience supervising tax professionals
- CPA or relevant certification preferred
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities
- Leadership and team management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and tax software
Identify when research is necessary and conduct investigations
Ensure client compliance and identify options to minimize tax and reporting burdens
Handle inquiries from federal and state agencies
Represent clients before tax authorities on contested issues
Act as SALT industry expert
Develop innovative ideas to benefit clients and the firm

Additional Information
Salary ranges are based on experience and location, with a national range of $157,500 - $420,000.
