Job Description

The Tax Managing Director, State and Local Taxation, is responsible for providing written tax advice to clients, evaluating and recommending courses of action to reduce tax burdens and compliance costs, recognizing potential tax risks, and identifying changes in tax policy and regulations. This role involves marketing, networking, business development within their area of expertise, and maintaining key client relationships. The Director is a vital part of the office / region's Tax Services leadership team and serves as a resource for guidance on complex tax issues.

Responsibilities

  1. Research
  2. Identify when research is necessary and conduct investigations

  3. Analyze research findings and sources
  4. Prepare tax implication studies and outline alternatives
  5. Collaborate with tax professionals to resolve complex matters
  6. Tax Compliance
  7. Ensure client compliance and identify options to minimize tax and reporting burdens

  8. Manage engagement metrics
  9. Drive sales tax compliance services
  10. Tax Consulting
  11. Handle inquiries from federal and state agencies

  12. Draft responses to tax authorities
  13. Monitor project implementation
  14. Provide solutions based on tax knowledge and industry insights
  15. Tax Controversy
  16. Represent clients before tax authorities on contested issues

  17. Respond to agency questions
  18. Tax Specialization
  19. Act as SALT industry expert

  20. Identify cross-selling opportunities
  21. Manage SALT services for clients
  22. Develop tools to improve SALT practice efficiency
  23. Financial and Strategic Development
  24. Develop innovative ideas to benefit clients and the firm

  25. Participate in industry groups
  26. Lead marketing and SALT initiatives
  27. Supervisory Responsibilities

  28. Supervise and review work of SALT team members
  29. Ensure training on tax software
  30. Evaluate performance and develop goals
  31. Provide feedback and career guidance
  32. Qualifications & Experience

  33. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required
  34. Master's degree and JD preferred
  35. Minimum 10 years SALT experience
  36. Experience supervising tax professionals
  37. CPA or relevant certification preferred
  38. Skills & Abilities

  39. Excellent communication and analytical skills
  40. Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities
  41. Leadership and team management skills
  42. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and tax software
  43. Additional Information

    Salary ranges are based on experience and location, with a national range of $157,500 - $420,000.
