Tesla
What To Expect
The Vehicle Dynamics Modelling team is responsible for predicting the unparalleled lateral and longitudinal behavior of all Tesla vehicles, aligning them with the attributes of the brand. In a fast-paced and constantly changing environment, we own and maintain a family of full vehicle and subsystem models, using them creatively as part of a larger engineering process. This process supports upstream requirements setting and downstream opportunities in product development. We seek skilled and passionate team members who will provide innovative and efficient solutions while meeting demanding timelines and performance standards.
As part of the Vehicle Dynamics Modelling Team, your role involves creating, developing, and deploying models and infrastructure for a motion platform simulator. This simulator is utilized by multiple Tesla teams to make high-confidence decisions on future platforms without physical prototypes. The role requires understanding the challenges faced by users, designing test plans, developing robust workflows to manipulate models and motion platform behaviors, and generating accurate test conclusions involving human factors. The primary customers are the Chassis Dynamics and Vehicle Software teams. Tesla expects candidates to meet performance goals and communicate results within tight deadlines. This is a hands-on position requiring high self-direction, proven ability, and flexibility.
What You'll Do
Create, develop, and maintain infrastructure for motion platform configuration and operation to ensure reliability, repeatability, and traceability.
Develop and maintain modeling infrastructure, including real-time models, software-in-the-loop, and hardware-in-the-loop systems.
Establish motion platform test procedures and best practices to derive high-confidence results.
Maintain rig test schedules to optimize the utility of the motion platform for vehicle platform decisions while allowing sufficient system development time.
Communicate findings clearly and promptly.
What You'll Bring
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
5+ years of proven success in multibody or other mechanical system modeling.
Experience in motion platform testing, vehicle instrumentation, and data analysis.
Creative problem-solving skills and interest in new ideas and approaches.
A desire for continuous learning.
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
Experience in developing performance goals for different vehicle specifications, markets, controls, and autonomous vehicles is a plus.
Experience in subjective vehicle evaluation on public roads and proving grounds is a plus.
