Intro: Since 1963, Sheakley has been a trusted leader in safety management across construction, manufacturing, and industrial environments. We are seeking a part-time Safety Manager to provide comprehensive safety oversight at an active paper manufacturing facility in Riverdale, AL. This role is ideal for safety professionals with pulp and paper industry experience, particularly in recovery, boiler operations, and back side plant environments.

Approximately 24–32 hrs/week Schedule:

Tuesday–Thursday (occasional Monday or Friday)

Project Scope: This role involves overseeing safety operations in a live paper manufacturing facility. Responsibilities include conducting daily safety walks and inspections, leading safety meetings, enforcing confined space and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and ensuring compliance with OSHA and facility-specific safety requirements.

Qualifications: ✅ OSHA 30 (General Industry) ✅ OSHA 511 ✅ First Aid/CPR Certification ✅ LOTO experience ✅ Proven pulp and paper plant safety experience

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct daily safety inspections and hazard assessments in high-risk plant areas

Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions for plant personnel

Enforce confined space entry and LOTO procedures in compliance with OSHA

Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and corrective action documentation

Collaborate with plant leadership to promote a proactive safety culture

Support incident investigations and recommend corrective actions

Skills:

Strong knowledge of general industry safety practices within pulp and paper manufacturing

Excellent communication and leadership abilities

Proficient in OSHA compliance and plant safety management

Ability to work independently and adapt to evolving plant conditions

Knowledge Base: Comprehensive understanding of OSHA general industry standards, confined space, LOTO, and pulp and paper plant safety operations.
