Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Residential PV Solar Designer to join our team on an hourly basis. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for drafting accurate and code-compliant photovoltaic (PV) plan sets for residential solar projects. Your work will support permitting, installation, and interconnection processes while ensuring compliance with local jurisdictional requirements and utility standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Create detailed solar PV system plan sets including site plans, single-line diagrams, roof layouts, attachment details, and electrical calculations.
- Draft and revise designs based on inputs from site surveys, engineering specifications, and sales team proposals.
- Ensure all drawings comply with applicable building and electrical codes (e.g., NEC, IRC), utility requirements, and AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) standards.
- Collaborate with project managers, permit coordinators, and engineers to support timely submission of plans for permits and approvals.
- Maintain organized files of drawings and revisions using company CAD standards and naming conventions.
- Support redlines, corrections, and re-submittals as required by building departments or engineers of record.
- Stay informed of code changes and regional jurisdictional updates affecting plan set design.
Required:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or equivalent CAD drafting software.
- Experience creating construction-level documents for solar PV systems.
- Working knowledge of electrical symbols, basic circuitry, and residential construction.
- Understanding of solar PV system components (modules, inverters, racking, BOS).
- Ability to interpret site survey data and translate into accurate layouts.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- 1+ years of experience drafting residential PV designs.
- Familiarity with AHJs and utility requirements in California or (Insert Relevant Region).
- Knowledge of permitting platforms (e.g., SolarAPP+, Enerflo, Accela).
- Basic understanding of battery storage systems and electrical service upgrades.

The starting salary for this opportunity range is listed. Other rewards may include annual bonus eligibility, which is based on company and individual performance, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards.
