Prepares patients for MRI procedures and positions them accordingly. Sets imaging parameters and performs computer processing to display images. Conducts scheduled quality control procedures on MRI scanners and related equipment. Records quality assurance results as required and reports any equipment-related issues to the supervisor. Administers intravenous injections of MR contrast agents using an MR-compatible power injector. Understands and communicates potential contraindications of MR contrast agents. Monitors for and responds to adverse reactions to MR contrast agents. Records all information related to contrast injections accurately. Inserts IV catheters as needed and performs point of care testing. Instructs patients and visitors on MR safety procedures. Ensures adherence to safety practices in the MRI area by all personnel. Reviews outpatient schedules to confirm exams have been protocoled and checks for potential contraindications. Acts as the final checkpoint for patient safety and protocol clarification. Communicates with radiologists for protocol clarification when necessary. Utilizes designated department protocols and reports any issues to the supervisor or Quality Assurance Manager. Assists in the instruction of visitors and medical staff rotating through the area. Explains patient procedures, processing, equipment operation, and safety practices. Mentors new staff and fellow technologists as needed. Adheres to established policies and practices. Reviews the MRI patient procedure screening form with patients and completes staff-specific questions. Utilizes departmental tools to confirm contrast dosing and ensure patient safety. Maintains a clean work environment, including patient care areas and scan rooms. Monitors inventory levels of necessary supplies and communicates with management. Assists department staff with various duties, such as scheduling and transporting patients. Develops knowledge of MR physics through on-the-job training and continuous education. Identifies hazardous system malfunctions and secures the area during emergencies. Performs other related duties as required.
