Lutheran Hospital is seeking an innovative, strategic, operational, and transformational physician executive to provide leadership in all aspects of medical staff affairs for the hospital with an emphasis on creating a high-reliability culture of quality, patient safety, evidence-based medicine, and value-based clinical care. The goal of the Chief Medical Officer role is to set the vision and agenda for improvement in clinical outcomes, as well as resource utilization, patient-centered care coordination, and patient experience so as to optimize the quality of care through rigorous outcomes measurement, data analytics, and performance improvement processes. The Chief Medical Officer will manage the creation, updating, and implementation of quality and safety standards and processes for the hospital to ensure consistency and continuity with the goal of reducing inappropriate variation. The Chief Medical Officer will be a member of the hospital's executive team and report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

nChief Medical Officer Responsibilities:
nServe as enterprise champion for the development and sustainability of a culture of quality, safety, and high reliability and provide leadership in the design and implementation of comprehensive quality and safety programs for the hospital.
nServe as a change agent for programs that will create clinical improvement and
noptimization of related activities or goals for CHS and Chief Medical Center.
nDevelop, evaluate and implement clinical practice protocols in collaboration with the
nhospital's clinical staff and facilitate evidence-based practices which drive the
ndevelopment of a culture of patient safety.
nProvide leadership and vision in the development of clinical guidelines and care
npathways and integrate, monitor, and evaluate quality assurance with disease
nmanagement.
nSupport efforts to improve quality outcomes, both clinically and administratively, to
nensure the highest standards in the treatment and care of patients.
nSupport compliance with all relevant state and federal licensing and accrediting
nbodies.
nParticipate in the ongoing development of clinical information systems and electronic
nmedical records to allow proper utilization of clinical data analytics and feedback to
nphysicians regarding their practice patterns and performance.
nSupport medical staff officers, chiefs and committee chairs to provide leadership for
nthe hospital's bylaws, rules, and regulations, as well as policies, procedures, and
nbehavior standards.
nSupport the Medical Staff in its self-governance and accountability to the Hospital
nBoard for quality and safety of patient care. Assures medical staff compliance with
nbylaws, rules and regulations, as well as policies, procedures, and behavior
nstandards.
nPartner with medical staff leadership to resolve disputes between members of the
nmedical staff and follow up on medical staff behavioral issues as outlined in relevant
nhospital and medical staff policies.
nDefine the roles of the Medical Staff leaders as outlined in the bylaws and regulations.
nEnsure medical staff development plans and programs are implemented and
nmaintained.
nProvides leadership in the areas of strategic planning, strategy execution and
nimplementation of care management programs. Works closely with the regional,
ncorporate and facility leadership to advise, organize and educate physicians on clinical
nintegration.
nSupport physician recruitment and promote programs which enhance physician
nsatisfaction.
nRegistration/Certification/Licensure: Board certification in medical specialty
nExperience: Minimum of five years experience as a general practitioner in private practice, medical staff, military or medical society affairs.
nEducation: Graduate of an accredited medical school with an M.D. or D.O. degree with current licensure by the State of Indiana as a physician and surgeon along with significant management training; preference given to candidates with MBS, MPH or MHSA credentials.
nRequired knowledge and professional experience:
nDemonstrated performance and accomplishments in physician leadership roles gained
nin an acute care hospital setting and/or major medical group.
n8+ years of clinical practice experience
nExperience in and significant understanding of contemporary clinical process
nimprovement, acute care hospital clinical quality benchmarking, best practices and
nquality management programs.
nFamiliarity with and understanding of medical staff organization, credentialing, bylaws,
nrules, and regulations.
nPossesses high energy and enthusiasm
nExcellent interpersonal skills with ability to manage multiple competing priorities
nDemonstrated abilities with strategic planning, budgeting, management, and goal
nsetting.
nExperience designing effective clinical practice patterns and clinical protocols to
ndecrease inappropriate utilization to enhance quality outcomes.
nWorks as a goal-setting and solutions-oriented leader.
