About The Role
The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for enacting a strategic vision as well as day-to-day accounting functions, budgeting and forecasting for the organization and expansion. This person is also responsible for Museum Services, Systems and IT.
What You'll Do
Essential Functions:
Executive Leadership
Promote strategic vision of the organization and direct the Museum Operations including overseeing Museum Services, Systems and IT. (WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THIS?) Along with the CEO and COO, develops and implements actionable strategic plans to achieve short- and long-term goals in alignment with the Museum’s mission.
Financial Management
Meets accounting financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions. Achieves accounting operational objectives by contributing accounting information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, customer service standards; and resolving problems. identifies trends; determines system improvements; & implements change. Completes audits; Work with outside auditors and prepare work papers to complete the fiscal year-end audit, ANNUALLY. Confirms financial status by monitoring revenue and expenses; coordinating the collection, consolidation, and evaluation of financial data; preparing financial reports for Board meetings and other meetings as needed. Maintains accounting controls by establishing a chart of accounts; defining accounting policies and procedures. Guides other departments by researching and interpreting accounting policy; applying observations and recommendations to operational issues. Provides financial data and support services for grant submissions. Troubleshoot online ticket sales and process payments as needed. Maintains financial security by establishing internal controls. Avoids legal challenges by understanding current and proposed legislation; enforcing accounting regulations; recommending new procedures. Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential. Accomplishes accounting and organization mission by completing related results as needed. Reconcile accounts, prepare invoices, and process sales tax. Create and record payroll journal entries in Excel and QuickBooks. Prepare and track budgets. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Staff Management and Administration
Foster an open, positive and collegial organizational culture. Creates and applies creative solutions to problems; adapting and shifting as needed. Participates in and attends museum administrative team meetings, institutional programs and events as needed.

Yes. This position manages the Staff Accountant.
Work Environment
This position operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, a 10-key calculator, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands/Strength
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit and use repetitive motions. The employee is occasionally required to reach, handle, grasp, talk, and hear. Rarely, does the position require standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, feeling, and eye/hand/foot coordination. The position requires little physical effort.

Education/Experience
Bachelor’s Degree (required) in Accounting (preferred) Accounting certificate, Masters degree in Accounting or Business Administration (MACC, CPA, CMA OR MBA) preferred 7+ years of accounting experience in a nonprofit environment. Ability to troubleshoot issues with POS, Altru, website, IT, and phones (preferred). Ability to automate processes when applicable.

About The Role
