Each of the above functions as a part-time (hourly) seasonal employee; compensation compares favorably with similar positions in south Florida. Responsibilities Read and analyze scripts to understand story, themes, characters, settings, style. Research historical periods and cultural trends to ensure accuracy and authenticity of performances. Collaborate with the design team to develop a cohesive look and feel for the show. Lead well-organized, productive, and enjoyable rehearsals that engage and challenge both experienced and beginning performers, provide for general skill-building, and meet weekly production goals. Guide and mentor students in developing as young artists and professionals, supporting their intellectual, physical, and emotional growth. Key Dates and Weekly Schedules All rehearsal and performance events take place in or around our 400 seat “cafetorium”-style theatre, on the school campus at 19000 NE 25th Avenue, Miami FL 33180 (just a few minutes west of the Aventura Mall). Auditions for both shows start the week of August 25, 2025 There are no rehearsals Thanksgiving week, the last two weeks of December, and US/Jewish holidays. Matilda Rehearsal and Performance Schedule: Regular rehearsals are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:45-5:45pm, plus one Sunday per month, typically from 10am-1pm. In addition to this, there are lead-only rehearsals on Tuesdays (same times) and sometimes Fridays (2:15-3:45). Performances are February 4-8, 2026. Newsies Rehearsal and Performance Schedule: Regular rehearsals are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:15-6:30pm, plus one Sunday per month, typically from 10am-2pm. In addition to this, there are lead-only rehearsals on Wednesdays (same times) and sometimes Fridays (2:15-3:45). Performances are March 6-13, 2026. All actors attend all regular rehearsals regardless of role, so it is our practice to run concurrent blocking, music, and/or dance rehearsals as needed to keep everyone engaged, which means that there are always at least two of the three directors present. Lead-only rehearsals are more targeted; only specific actors and directors are called. Qualifications Success serving in similar roles in similar projects. Experience working with young performers of this particular age group and level of experience. Candidates should be able to share how they have responded with creativity and resourcefulness to past production challenges and opportunities, whether story, space, budget, time, or personnel related. Flexibility and resilience. Clear, timely, and effective communication. Scheck Hillel is an equal opportunity employer. Our staff and faculty come from diverse backgrounds.
