Certified Nursing Assistant
Reports to: Keystone Administrators and Building Administrators in assigned buildings
**This is a 10 month per year position (follows Easton USD #449's school schedule)**
PURPOSE:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a paraprofessional member of the nursing staff who works under the supervision of a registered nurse and performs various services for a student as necessary to meet the student's personal needs and to promote comfort. The CNA is responsible for observing the student, reporting these observations and documenting observations and care performed. The CNA will be assigned by a Registered Nurse in a manner that promotes quality, continuity, and safety of a patient's care.
I. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsibilities of the CNA include, but are not limited to, the following:
The CNA will only perform duties that are allowed nursing tasks in the school setting for Kansas or perform specialized caretaking tasks that are delegated by an RN.
III. OTHER FUNCTIONS:
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percent, and/or ratios; review and interpret highly technical information, write professional materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define concerns and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include but are not limited to: disabilities and the impact they have on academic achievement; principles, methods, and human behavior; learning and motivation; human development; mental health; behavior interventions; codes, laws, rules, regulations, and policies; procedures for diagnosis and treatment.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. The ability to work with diverse individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and use job-related equipment is also required. Independent problem solving is required to analyze data and create action plans. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include but are not limited to: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; employing active listening; diffusing confrontations; and working as part of a team.
IV. Work Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting and carrying of up to fifty (50) pounds, some pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment. The job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

- Performing personal care needs after given a student's assignment and attending to his/her requests promptly. If unable to perform a certain task, report to the RN immediately.
- Providing student and family with positive communication techniques, within the realm of ethical and respectful care, including confidentiality.
- Meeting safety needs of student and using equipment safely and properly.
- Assessing and reporting on student's condition and significant changes to the RN.
- Adhering to the organization's documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct.
- Participates in quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities.
- Respectful of student and family/caregiver environment and student's personal needs.
- Following student health care plans and doctor orders for individual students that fall under normal CNA duties, or as delegated by an RN.

- Meets the training requirements of the State.
- Has obtained CNA certification.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Ability to read and follow written instructions and document care given.
- Understands and is comfortable performing nursing duties in a school setting.
- Satisfactory references from previous employers.
- Is self-directing with the ability to work with little direct supervision.
- Has empathy for the needs of the ill, injured, frail and the impaired.
- Possess and maintain current CPR certification.
- Demonstrates tact, patience and good personal hygiene.
