Domestic Violence Victim Advocate

Job Summary
This position requires an individual with strong listening skills, emotional sensitivity, and the ability to manage stressful situations with compassion and discretion. A key focus of the role is providing direct support services to victims and survivors of intimate partner and family violence. This includes offering advocacy, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed support to help individuals identify their needs, create safety plans, and connect with community resources. Support may involve making referrals, assisting with court filings, and accompanying clients during legal proceedings.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide crisis intervention, advocacy, and emotional support to victim/survivors
Assist victims in identifying their needs, such as safety, housing, financial, and transportation
Make appropriate referrals for clients and connect them with resources
Collaborate with victim/survivors to develop safety planning to protect themselves and their dependents
Assist victim/survivors with the legal process, including making police reports, filing protection orders, preparing for court appearances, court accompaniment, assisting with reparation applications, and victim impact statements
Attend criminal court, as needed, to support victim/survivors
Assist in tracking and monitoring the criminal justice system's response to domestic violence cases
Timely and confidential recordkeeping using the Victim Services Tracking database is required
A respectful, collaborative approach is expected in all interactions-with clients, colleagues, community members, and partner organizations-in keeping with the mission, vision, and values of Family Safety Network
Adhere to strict confidentiality requirements
Assist with crisis line coverage
Additional Responsibilities
Assist in community outreach and education to raise awareness about domestic violence
Build and maintain strategic partnerships with community organizations to identify needs and enhance collaboration in services for victim/survivors
Maintain a thorough and current listing of resources in the community
Facilitate peer support groups for victim/survivors
Crisis Line coverage, as needed
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required
College degree in Human Services, Criminal Justice, Psychology, or a related field preferred
Experience working with issues related to intimate partner violence is essential
Experience with Microsoft Office suite
Requirements and Skills
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Strong time management skills

Reliable transportation and valid driver's license are required
Compensation
Salary based on education, qualifications, and experience
